11 a.m. Thursday — Jeremy C. Combs, 32, of Ashtabula, Ohio, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft after he allegedly stole a cell phone from Walmart in Butler Commons. Police also found a syringe and spoon on him during the arrest.
The phone was valued at $85.

4:33 p.m. Thursday — James E. Reed III, 24, of Pittsburgh was arrested on Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township after he allegedly stole a car in Pittsburgh.
Police said Reed also was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance and was in possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property as well as other drug and traffic charges.
He was placed in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.
6:46 a.m. Thursday — A pickup truck driven by Anthony R. Genaway, 21, of Chicora collided with an SUV driven by Steven J. Battaglia, 49, of Ellwood city on Route 488 in Muddy Creek Township.
Police said Genaway was attempting to turn onto the Interstate 79 ramp but did not yield to oncoming traffic.
Genaway was cited for a turning violation.
December 2014 — An unlicensed mechanic allegedly was doing state safety inspections at Monro Muffler Brake, 178 New Castle Road in Butler Township.
Michael R. Yockey, 25, of Butler allegedly did 74 inspections for six months in 2014.
Police said John E. Lutz Jr., 36, of Ellwood City fraudulently and intentionally signed government documents showing he had done the inspections to cover up that Yockey, his subordinate, did them.
Lutz was charged with tampering with public records and several faulty inspection violations.
Yockey was charged with several violations relating to being an unlicensed mechanic.
The business also was charged with multiple violations concerning inspections and record keeping.
[naviga:h3]State Police, New Castle[/naviga:h3]
5:44 p.m. Monday — A two-vehicle accident occurred at the crest of a hill on a rural road in Scott Township, Lawrence County.
Police said a car driven by Tiffany Natzic, 29, of New Castle was driving southbound when it crossed the center of the road and struck the left side of an oncoming car driven by Evan Parker, 23, of Slippery Rock.
The tar and chip road did not have lines on it.
Natzic was cited for a traffic lane violation.

3:05 p.m. Wednesday — A car driven by Timothy W. Swanson, 29, of Grove City struck the side of a pickup truck driven by James L. Strange, 70, of Harrisville at the intersection of Leesburg-Grove City Road and the Interstate 79 off-ramp. Police said Swanson did not stop at a red signal and struck the side of Strange’s truck.
He was cited for a traffic control violation.

6:10 a.m. Friday — A deer caused a three-vehicle accident on Route 28, just north of exit 10 in O’Hara Township, Allegheny County.
Police said the deer entered the southbound lane in front of an SUV driven by Jessica J. Kovacs, 31, of Jeanette, Westmoreland County.
Kovacs slammed on her breaks to avoid hitting the animal but was unable to stop in time.
A pickup truck driven by Michael R. Foringer, 21, of New Bethlehem, Clarion County, was behind Kovacs’ vehicle.
Police said Foringer was distracted with a drink and was not able to react to the crash quick enough. He attempted to swerve left to avoid striking the SUV but hit the back left side of the vehicle. His truck then went into the left lane of the road and struck another pickup driven by Kevin L. Travis, 49, of Cabot.
All three vehicles were towed.
Kovacs was taken to UPMC St. Margaret’s hospital in Pittsburgh with minor injuries.
Foringer was cited for careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
[naviga:h3]Bureau of Liquor Control, Punxsutawney[/naviga:h3]
Sept. 28 — Hotel Petrolia, 117 Main St., Petrolia, was cited for a liquor law violation after it allegedly sold alcohol to a visibly intoxicated patron.
