Butler Police5:24 p.m. Wednesday — Michael G. Watt, 39, of Butler was allegedly intoxicated when he caused a disturbance at a community dinner at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church on East Jefferson Street.Dinner staffers had to escort Watt out of the building and officers were called, according to a police report. Police said they smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from Watt. He was arrested and placed in a holding cell at the police station until he sobered up.Watt is charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.Saturday — A pair of prescription eyeglasses and about 15 compact discs were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Hickory Street. The stolen property, worth about $350, was taken Friday or Saturday.
Butler Twp. PoliceThursday — Police reported they filed two drug charges against a boy stemming from his treatment last month at Butler Memorial Hospital. The youth, who police did not identify, was unconscious apparently at the time someone brought him into the hospital or soon after he got there shortly after 1 a.m. Sept. 20.The boy is charged in juvenile court with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.7:11 p.m. Wednesday — William C. Hamm, 29, of Wheeling, W.Va., was arrested after he was caught allegedly huffing a can of air duster at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police said he shoplifted the canned air and was walking through the store huffing it.Hamm was arraigned on charges of inhaling a noxious substance, retail theft and public drunkenness, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail.2:22 p.m. Monday — Cars driven by Sarah Styen, 21, of Butler and Melanie Luga, 45, of Florida collided on Route 8 just south of Litman Road.
Buffalo Twp. Police11:17 p.m. Wednesday — John K. Jones, 44, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, was arrested after he allegedly twice clubbed his girlfriend with a baseball bat during a domestic dispute at her home on Linwood Drive.The suspected attack left Megan Miller at an Allegheny County hospital with unspecified injuries.Jones, who faces felony assault and other charges, is being held in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.Miller told police the defendant became angry after looking through her cell phone, according to court documents. She grabbed a wooden ball bat for protection but her boyfriend wrested it from her.Jones allegedly hit her on the right side of the head with the bat. Miller yelled for her child to run to the neighbor’s home and call 911, documents said. The defendant hit her again with the bat before driving away in his car.Miller went to the police station to report what happened. Police said she had injuries to her head and a cut on her left wrist. A Freeport EMS ambulance took her to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights. Her condition was not known this morning.Police the following day arrested Jones, who was arraigned on a felony charge of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.
State Police, Franklin4:50 a.m. Thursday — An Oil City woman was hurt when her sport utility vehicle hit a cow on the road in Clinton Township, Venango County. Candace G. Whitling, 60, was traveling west on Route 208 when the large black bovine wandered onto the road.The SUV hit and killed the cow. Whitling, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Police said the owner later removed the cow.The Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department and Superior Ambulance assisted at the scene.Wednesday — An unknown thief stole a white, plastic mirror cover from a 2016 Kenworth tractor truck in the 4000 block of Route 308 in Clinton Township, Venango County. The stolen property, valued at $300, was taken between 5 and 6 p.m.
State Police, Kittanning4:24 p.m. Wednesday — Two Sarver teenagers were hurt in a one-vehicle wreck in South Buffalo Township. Austin T. Parison, 16, lost control of his pickup truck around a curve and struck a small rock wall, causing the vehicle to roll over on Route 128.Parison and his passenger, Bradley K. Timko, 18, both suffered minor injuries. Both teens were wearing seat belts. Police said Parison was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.
