Butler Twp Police8:17 p.m. Tuesday — Arthur J. Barnett III, 21, of Butler was caught with suspected marijuana and other contraband following a traffic stop on Route 8 south. Barnett is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Grove City Police3:40 p.m. Wednesday — An Allegheny County man was arrested after leading police on a chase in and out of the borough aboard a motorcycle. The suspect, Brandon Gloeckl, 20, of West Mifflin, initially took off when borough police tried to make a traffic stop at North Broad and North streets.Gloeckl traveled out of Grove City and into Wolf Creek Township on Route 173. The pursuit ended when Gloeckl eventually stopped his motorcycle. He was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police and reckless endangerment.Police also ticketed him for driving with a suspended license, driving without a motorcycle license, speeding, reckless driving and improperly approaching an intersection. He was placed in Mercer County Jail on $25,000 bail following arraignment.
Butler County Drug Task ForceWednesday — Scott E. Panosetti, 40, of Butler was arraigned on charges stemming from an alleged drug deal earlier this year in Butler. He is accused of selling nine stamp bags of heroin to a police informant in the $100 deal March 16 on West Brady Street.District Judge Pete Shaffer arraigned Panosetti on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.The defendant was later placed in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.A day before the arraignment, the task force arrested Panosetti after probation officers turned up drugs at his home in the 300 block of West North Street during a compliance check, according to court documents.Officers searched the small apartment Tuesday and found suspected heroin and empty bags of heroin, hypodermic needles and other contraband. Authorities said he claimed ownership of the heroin and other items.Also at the home was Michael D. Guy, 32 of Butler, who was searched and found with a used needle in his rear pants pocket.In connection with Tuesday’s search, Panosetti is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Guy is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
State Police, Butler1:31 a.m. today — Zachery D. Morton, 22, of Wexford was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence following a traffic stop in Slippery Rock. Morton was driving a car without its headlights on when he was pulled over on Main Street at Ginger Hill Tavern.Wednesday — Police charged James C. Shearer III, 23, of Butler with lying on his application to buy a gun March 31 at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Center Township.Shearer, who is legally prohibited from possessing a gun, police said, is charged with unlawfully attempting to purchase a firearm, a felony. Additionally, he faces a misdemeanor charge of making a false statement to authorities.8:57 a.m. Saturday — Jo M. Russell, 52, of Hardy, Ark., was nabbed with suspected marijuana and other contraband on the 700 block of East Butler Road in East Butler. Russell is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Sept. 10 — Police obtained a felony arrest warrant for Omahr E. Isaac, 39, of Forward Township, who is accused of stealing his mother’s 2004 Jeep Liberty last month.Isaac allegedly took 72-year-old Carol Kelly’s sport utility vehicle Aug. 8 or 9 from her home on Allison Drive in Harrisville. The vehicle, which is believed to be in the state of California, is valued at $4,000, according to court documents.The defendant is charged with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal mischief.Aug. 30 — A 30-year-old Portersville man is suspected of forging two checks that he stole between Aug. 24 and 30 from a home atLakeArthur Estates just south of Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township.The suspect, who police did not identify, signed the name of the owner, a 50-year-old woman, and cashed the checks for a “significant amount of money,” according to a police report.Police said the case of theft, forgery and tampering with records remains under investigation.
State Police, Franklin8:50 a.m. Wednesday — Mary L. Bartley, 80, of Parker was hurt when a tractor-trailer struck her car at Routes 322 and 38 in Rockland Township. Police said she was driving on Route 38 when she turned in front of the rig.Bartley, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to UPMC Northwest in Seneca with minor injuries. Nelson R. Swartz, 70, of Watsontown, Northumberland County, was the other driver.
State Police, KittanningWednesday — An unknown burglar stole gasoline from a barn in Pine Township, Armstrong County. The gas was in equipment that was in the barn on Belltown Road. The burglary and theft happened between Aug. 1 and Wednesday.
State Police, Mercer1:40 a.m. Thursday — Burglars made off with an unspecified amount of money after breaking into the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7465 on Brent Road in Springfield Township. Police said the investigation continues but did not indicate if they have any suspects.Wednesday — Evan Mi. Schirra, 21, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Kennerdell, was arrested on charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 at a home in Pine Township, Mercer County.Schirra, who was wanted in the case on an arrest warrant issued Sept. 8, turned himself in to authorities. He was arraigned on charges of rape, sexual assault, two counts of indecent assault, simple assault, furnishing alcohol to a minor and harassment. He is free on $25,000 bail.
State Police, New Castle3:09 p.m. Monday — A Butler County teenager was hurt when the car he was driving rear-ended a pickup truck on Route 208 at Lusk Road in Wilmington Township. Andrew J. Kearney, 18, of Cranberry Township, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.Police said Kearney was cited for following too closely to another vehicle. John E. Popp, 69, of Aliquippa, Beaver County, was driving the pickup.
