Gary A. Foster, former Evans City mayor

Gary A. Foster, 74, of Evans City passed away Saturday in the comfort of his home with his family at his side.

Born Oct. 5, 1940, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Alvin J. and Isabelle (Parsons) Foster.

Gary proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a military police officer. He served as an Evans City police officer for two years and was the mayor of Evans City for a little more than 19 years. He also worked for MSA as a chemical operator until his retirement in 2000.

Gary was a member of several organizations, including the American Legion, the Butler County Fire Police and the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), where he umpired for 45 years. He has participated in umpiring the Cranberry CUP since it began in 2000 and also served as a scout master. As an avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping in his free time. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 36 years, Ruth M. (Grosjean) Foster, who he married on Dec. 9, 1978; his children, Gary Richard (Melissa) Foster of Beaver Falls, Douglas (Denise) Foster of Evans City and Keith (Dana) Foster of Callery; his stepchildren, Tracy (Paul) Sarver of Butler and William (Colleen) Swarmer of Butler; nine grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

FOSTER — The family of Gary A. Foster, who died Saturday, April 4, 2015, will welcome friends and family on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Boylan Funeral Home, 116 E. Main St. Evans City.A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff MacKay officiating.Gary will be laid to rest in Evans City Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made in Gary's honor in support of the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
