Security heightened after threats at Knoch
JEFFERSON TWP — School went on as usual today at Knoch High and Middle schools after reports of a bomb threat during the weekend.
During the weekend, South Butler School District officials became aware of a social media posting indicating the potential presence of a bomb at the high and middle school complex, according to an e-mail sent by the district.
The threat turned out to be unsubstantiated, but heightened security immediately was put into place. The complex was subject to a comprehensive search by district officials and school police. There also was a K-9 search conducted by the Allegheny County Sheriff’s office.
Following this, district officials felt that the campus has been secured and was safe for students and staff, and decided that classes would take place today.
As a precautionary measure, the district said in the e-mail that it will maintain heightened security protocols for the foreseeable future and will use the district emergency notification system to communicate updated information if necessary.
