SRU receiving grant from VA for adaptive sports programs
Slippery Rock University is receiving grant money for organizations that provide an adaptive sports program for veterans and active-duty service members from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Adaptive sports programs give veterans opportunities to build independence, well-being, and quality of life through a variety of competitive and recreational activities. These activities, such as archery, skiing, cycling, wheelchair softball, hunting, fishing, and many others, enable veterans to rehabilitate through recreation and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle,” a VA news release said.
The SRU grant is part of nearly $850,000 going to four community-based organizations in Pennsylvania.
More information will be available after an Oct. 27 activity with veterans on campus.
