Eatery maybe near reopening
PORTERSVILLE — Pie.
“Coconut cream is what I’m famous for,” said Harold D. Brown, owner of Brown’s Country Kitchen on West Portersville Road.
The popular eatery — and the aforementioned pie — have been sidelined since a Dec. 7 kitchen fire. Brown says he’s just a few weeks away from reopening.
The fire was believed to be accidental, and broke out after the restaurant was closed. A passing motorist noticed smoke coming out of a window at the restaurant and called 911.
The kitchen was most heavily damaged. The neighboring dining room and the rest of the restaurant, which includes a seasonal ice cream stand and a basement, sustained smoke and water damage.
Since then, crews have made major repairs in some areas and a fresh coat of paint in others. They also added a lunch counter.
“We had to do a lot,” said Brown, who has owned the restaurant for more than three decades. “We’re hoping to reopen at the end of April.”
