Officials: Woman, 53, dies after jumping from I-79 overpass
MARSHALL TWP, Allegheny County — A 53-year-old woman who died after falling from an Interstate 79 overpass Tuesday afternoon took her own life, authorities said.
The Marshall Township woman, identified by police as Anna Sharlow, jumped off the Wexford Run Road overpass and onto the highway about 3:45 p.m., according to investigators. Her body landed in the northbound lanes.
She was not struck by motorists on the interstate after the 40-foot fall, said Northern Regional Police Chief Robert Amann
She was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:05 p.m., the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
An autopsy Wednesday determined the woman, who was married with two children, died of severe injuries.
The death was ruled a suicide.
Amann said police later Tuesday found Sharlow’s vehicle in the parking lot of Marshall Middle School, less than one-quarter mile away from where she died. The school is part of North Allegheny School District.
Investigators did not immediately know why she parked her vehicle there before walking onto the overpass, Amann said. She lived about four miles from the overpass.
