Butler Police
3:02 p.m. Wednesday — Selena Y. Klapheke, 19, who is homeless, was arrested on a bench warrant after police spotted her walking on Mercer Street. She was placed in the Butler County Prison.
9:28 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Bradley W. Griffiths, 30, of Fairview Township struck another car that was parked at West Penn and Broad streets. Griffiths told police that he moved his car to allow for oncoming vehicles when he hit the parked car.
Butler Twp. Police
1:11 a.m. Thursday — An icy road was blamed for a one-vehicle accident on McCalmont Road. Herman Nelson, 50, of Butler lost control of his pickup truck between Route 8 and the railroad tracks, crossed the road and rolled onto its side, ending in a snow bank.
Police found the road so badly ice covered that a PennDOT crew arrived and treated it with salt.
Thursday — Trenton Lee Stearns, 20, of Slippery Rock is accused of using a youth to help him in a Feb. 27 scheme to shoplift $450 of merchandise from the Walmart at Butler Commons. Stearns is charged with retail theft and corruption of minors.
3:01 p.m. Wednesday — Patricia A. Seigfried, 53, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $46.66 in merchandise at the Butler Commons' Walmart. Seigfried, who has a prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.
Wednesday — Police charged Jeffrey B. Taylor, 36, of Butler in connection with a hit-and-run crash at 5 p.m. Feb. 23 on 40th Street near Sarra Lane. Taylor allegedly did not stop after he drove into mailboxes along the road. The mailboxes were badly damaged.
In addition to hit-and-run, Taylor is charged with driving with a suspended license and careless driving.
3 p.m. Tuesday — Nathanial D. Teske, 28, who is homeless, was arrested after he allegedly tried to take $45 worth of merchandise from the Walmart at Butler Commons. A search later turned up suspected drug contraband.
Teske was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail.
Monday — Michael A. McDonald, 27, of Kittanning was charged with stealing items from two employees last month at BHS Outpatient Services at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza.
McDonald was part of a work crew repairing health care equipment at the facility's branch office and had access to the employees' belongings, which he allegedly stole Feb. 16, according to court documents.
He is accusing of taking one purse and taking the contents of another purse.
The owner of the stolen purse found the it in a garbage can at the corner of the shopping plaza near the Menchies store. Missing from the purse was about $160 in currency.
The other victim later learned that a credit card taken from her purse was used twice at a convenience store and auto parts store to make $202 in fraudulent purchases.
Along with the credit card from the woman's purse, taken were several gifts cards worth a combined value of $250.
Police eventually identified McDonald as the suspect. He later admitted to the crimes. He is charged with theft, identity theft and access device fraud.
State Police, Franklin
3:53 p.m. Wednesday — A road rage incident that started in Ohio on Interstate 80 ended with a trucker's passenger side window getting damaged on the highway in Barkeyville. Police said the investigation continues, and they did not provide any other details about the incident.
State Police, Kittanning
6:40 a.m. March 4 — Kayla J. Iseman, 25, of Ford City lost control of her sport utility vehicle on slush while passing another vehicle and spun out, hitting a guardrail on Route 28 about two-tenths of a mile north of exit 18 in South Buffalo Township.
Police cited Iseman for disregarding traffic lanes.
1:22 p.m. Monday — Chad M. Cornman 19, of Ford City was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Route 28 in Harmar Township, Allegheny County. Police suspected Cornman used heroin before driving.
Cornman's passenger, Sara E. Heigley, 29, of Ford City, was found with 40 bags of suspected heroin. Police said she faces felony drug possession charges.
State Police Punxsutawney
March 6 — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited the Island Bar on South Washington Street in Butler for permitting smoking on the premises Jan. 17. An administrative law judge will hear the case.
