Butler Police
2:13 p.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Jane P. Glass, 82, of Butler struck the front another car at North Monroe and East Penn streets. After the collision, Glass swerved to the right and struck a parked car. Vincent P. Sanzotti, 56, of Butler was the other driver.
Monday — Albert R. Ozog II, 32, of Butler was charged with stealing a friend’s rent money last week. Police suspect Ozog was visiting April Gibson at her home in the 100 block of Broad Street on March 3 when he took $435 that she had in an envelope.
Police charged Ozog with a first-degree misdemeanor count of theft.
Monday — Police charged Roberta L. Knepper, 33, of Butler stemming from a reported overdose Feb. 26 at her apartment in the 400 block of North Washington Street. Officers got there and allegedly found Knepper under the influence of drugs.
Officers searched her purse and turned up a used syringe. Knepper is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
11:01 a.m. Sunday — Carrie R. Nelson, 32, was arrested after she allegedly struggled with officers called for a domestic dispute at her apartment on Maple Avenue.
Police said they found Nelson, who appeared to be impaired by drugs. She was “continuously screaming and arguing,” according to court documents, and ignored officers who tried to get her to calm down and be quiet.
She was eventually arrested but allegedly resisted police efforts to put her in handcuffs. At one point, police said, she swung her elbows at officers.
Nelson was arraigned on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, and released on her own recognizance.
7:30 a.m. Sunday — Donald E. Vargo, 40, no known address, was arrested after he allegedly attacked a former girlfriend at her apartment in the 300 block of Broad Street.
The alleged victim, Erin Stiffler, told police that she had allowed Vargo into her apartment Saturday evening to visit. She later left and believed he was gone, too.
But when she returned home about 5 a.m. Sunday, she found Vargo hiding under bed. She recounted that he “started to flip out, held her down and strangled her,” a police affidavit said.
Stiffler told police that Vargo threatened to rape and punch her. He also allegedly threw her around and pushed her down, causing her to fall against the bed frame. She said he kicked her in the chest, which knocked the wind out of her.
Vargo was arraigned on felony charges of aggravated assault and trespass and misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats and simple assault. Following arraignment, he was placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.
4:50 p.m. Thursday — Cars driven by Jessica L. Mols, 21, of White Oak, Allegheny County, and Debrah M. Baldwin-Merriweather, 43, of Butler collided at West New Castle and Mercer streets.
Butler Twp Police
4:05 p.m. Monday — Paige S. Garduno, 19, of Karns City allegedly stole and ate food while she worked at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. The stolen food totaled $149. Police cited Garduno for retail theft.
State Police, Butler
Sunday — A Ruger .40-caliber pistol was reported stolen from a home on Pine Tract Road in Center Township. The gun was taken between Feb. 21 and Sunday.
Sunday — A Taurus .357-caliber revolver was reported lost from a home on Holyoke Road in Center Township. The owner apparently last saw the gun Jan. 5. Anyone with information about its whereabouts is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.
2:45 a.m. Friday — A sport utility vehicle crashed into a fence post after the driver, who police did not identify, lost control of the vehicle on Route 528 in Connoquenessing Township. The fence was not damaged in the crash.
9:43 p.m. Thursday — A motorist, who police did not identify, lost control of a car that skidded on a large ice patch and spun into an embankment on Route 228 west just east of Allemande Lane in Middlesex Township. The car ended up stuck in the snow.
State Police, Mercer
5:45 p.m. Tuesday — Two unknown shoplifters made off with $1,506 in merchandise from the Aeropostale store at the Premium Outlets in Springfield Township.
The suspects are both black females. One is believed to be between 40 and 50 years old; the other is between 16 and 22. The pair drove away in a silver, four-door car.
