Butler County Sheriff
Tuesday — Lesley Ann Smieszek, 26, of Butler faces misdemeanor drug charges after she was picked up on a domestic relations warrant in the parking lot of a restaurant at Butler Commons shopping plaza in Butler Township.
Deputies searched her and found a partial strip of Suboxone in her jacket, according to court documents. Additionally, she was found with an empty stamp bag of suspected heroin and four syringes and other drug contraband.
Smieszek was taken to Butler County Prison on the warrant. The sheriff’s office charged her with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
State Police, Butler
5:15 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Heather N. King, 28, of Butler slid out of control and struck an embankment on slush-covered Valencia Road just north of Glade Run Road in Forward Township. King was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
5 p.m. Thursday — Dorothy Hartzell, 60, no address given, was hurt in a two-vehicle collision in Clay Township.
The crash happened when Kimberly L. Hays, 29, of West Sunbury lost control of her sport utility vehicle on snow-covered Route 308 just south of Vidic Road. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the oncoming SUV that Hartzell was driving on Route 308 just south of Vidic Road.
Hartzell, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Hays was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
3:33 p.m. Thursday — Randy S. Webb, 44, was taken to the hospital with neck and back injuries suffered when a car struck the pickup truck he was driving in Clay Township. The other driver, Kelsey S. Starcher, 20, of Butler slid through the snow-covered intersection of Claytonia Road and Euclid Road and hit Webb’s truck. Webb was taken to Butler Memorial with injuries that police described as “moderate.” Starcher was cited for a stop sign violation.
1 p.m. Wednesday — Rodney G. Spence, 66, of Ford City was hurt when a tractor-trailer rear-ended the van he was driving on Route 422 just east of Bonniebrook Road in Summit Township. Spence, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a minor injury. The trucker, Wayne A. Mack, 52, of Vintondale, Cambria County, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
Wednesday — Police charged Joseph A. Machell Jr., 51, of Clifford, Susquehanna County, with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop at 11:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at New Castle and Duffy roads in Butler Township.
A breath test showed Machell’s blood-alcohol was 0.207 percent, according to court documents, more than double the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.
Machell is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, disobeying traffic control devices, a red light violation, driving on the wrong side of the road and careless driving.
Grove City Police
2 a.m. Thursday — A car driven by a North Carolina woman crashed into several grave markers at Woodland Cemetery after sliding out of control on snow-covered Cranberry Road at Broad Street. Hannah P. Duguid, 24, of Raleigh was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
12:27 a.m. Thursday — Louis J. Hebert Jr., 30, of Grove City was arrested after causing a suspected drunken disturbance in the 300 block of Garden Avenue. Police came upon Hebert after a resident called to complain about an unknown man outside yelling. The same man later asked if he could sleep in the resident’s garage. Officers found the suspect “stumbling in the street.” He was taken to the police station and cited for public drunkenness.
9 a.m. Wednesday — No one was hurt in a three-vehicle wreck at East Main Street Extension and Middle School Drive. The chain-reaction crash started when Stephanie Jo Covert, 18, of Harrisville failed to stop her car and hit the back of a vehicle driven by Derek Saylor, 18, of Grove City.
Moments later, a vehicle driven by Amanda M. Mikolaczyk, 25, of Boyers rear-ended Covert’s car.
Covert was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Mikolaczyk was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.
State Police, Franklin
5:10 a.m. Thursday — A Maine woman was hurt in a rollover crash in Clinton Township, Venango County. Ashlee B. Waldron, 28, lost control of her sport utility vehicle on Interstate 80 and hit an embankment. The SUV flipped onto its roof. Waldron, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. She was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
State Police, Kittanning
1:06 a.m. today — Pamela M. Reed, 35, of East Brady was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Routes 28 and 422 in East Franklin Township.
7:45 a.m. Thursday — A Kittanning woman was hurt when the sport utility vehicle she was driving crashed into three trees in South Buffalo Township. Amanda L. Hicks, 33, lost control of her SUV on Route 28 and went off the highway about one mile south of exit 18.
The vehicle’s driver’s side hit the first tree, slid sideways into a second tree with the rear passenger side, and continued into a third tree with the front end.
Hicks, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The Freeport Volunteer Fire Company and Freeport EMS assisted police, who reported no charges were filed.
