Butler Police6:57 p.m. Sunday — Laura K. Sims, 36, of Butler was arrested after she was caught allegedly shoplifting ground chuck and coffee at Friedman’s market on West Brady Street. Since Sims has two prior shoplifting convictions, she is charged with felony retail theft. She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance.2:53 p.m. Saturday — Amber R. Kastelic, 22, of Fairview Township was arrested after police allegedly found her with eight stamp bags of suspected heroin and four individually packaged rocks of crack cocaine at North Main and Brady streets.The arrest came after officers stopped Kastelic’s car in an area of known drug activity. While police were speaking to her, they noticed several baggies sticking out of her purse in the center console and other alleged drug contraband on the car floor, according to court documents. Officers eventually searched her and turned up the suspected heroin and crack.Kastelic was arraigned on two counts each of felony drug possession and misdemeanor drug possession. She is free on $15,000 bail.11:59 a.m. Thursday — A Lyndora man is accused of swiping cologne and bacon from the Kmart store at Pullman Square. Scott A. Koosher, 49, allegedly took the items, worth a combined $36.68, pushed past a store security officer and went out the door. He walked across the parking lot and discarded the merchandise. He was arrested a short time later and charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Grove City Police2:07 p.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Arnold Baker, 74, of Jackson Center rear-ended another car that was stopped on East Main Street near Liberty Street. Anthony Smith, 35, of Harrisville was the other driver.

Slippery Rock University PoliceTuesday — A Slippery Rock University student was charged with resisting arrest in connection with a suspected weekend drinking binge at Watson Hall.Police were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday after the suspect, 19-year-old Adrian Rivera of Adamstown, Md., apparently passed out and had to be helped indoors. Rivera smelled of alcohol and appeared “highly intoxicated,” according to court documents.While a campus police officer was trying to place Rivera in handcuffs, the suspect pulled his arm away. The officer, in turn, forced Rivera to the ground and placed him in cuffs.Police said Rivera was taken to the campus police station for a breath test. The test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.194 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated for motorists. In addition to resisting arrest, Rivera is charged with disorderly conduct and underage drinking.

State Police, Butler7 a.m. Wednesday — Kathryn D. Louton, 32, of Butler was hurt when she lost control of her pickup truck on snow, traveled down an embankment and hit a tree along Fallecker Road just north of Saint Wendelin Road in Summit Township. Louton, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.1:45 p.m. Sunday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Michele N. Young, 21, of Saxonburg crashed and overturned on its roof on snow-covered Dinnerbell Road just east of Frazier Road in Jefferson Township. Police cited Young for driving too fast for conditions.2:30 a.m. Jan. 28 — A would-be thief went to unusual lengths to break into Butler County T’s Car Wash on Route 8 in Center Township. The suspect drilled out the locks at the business in a bid to get inside. He left empty-handed but caused about $3,000 damage to the locks. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.Jan. 25 — A vandal used an unknown object to smash the front showroom window at Powell Auto Service on Franklin Street in Slippery Rock. The vandalism happened between 7:15 p.m. Jan. 24 and 12:30 p.m. Jan. 25. Police have no suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.Jan. 12 — A burglar broke into a vacant house on Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township and stripped out about 20 feet of copper wiring. The break-in happened between Dec. 24 and Jan. 12. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

State Police, Clarion8:59 a.m. Tuesday — Two Rimersburg men were hurt when their car collided with another car in Toby Township.Shon A. Bowser, 45, and Donald W. Steele, 47, suffered minor to moderate injuries. Steele was taken to Clarion Hospital for treatment. Bowser was treated at the scene.Police said the wreck happened on Cherry Run Road just north of Mohr Lane where a car driven by Jason B. Young, 39, also of Rimersburg, pulled in front of the car that Bowser was driving. Steele was a passenger in Bowser’s vehicle.Bowser was unable to stop and hit the driver’s side of the other car. All three occupants in the vehicles were wearing seat belts. Police said Young was cited for improperly entering or crossing a road.

State Police, Kittanning3:10 p.m. Tuesday — A 26-year-old Sarver man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Freeport Road and Route 28 in South Buffalo TownshipFriday — Police charged David A. Krysik, 40, of Worthington, a registered sexual offender, with violating Megan’s Law. He is accused of creating a new Facebook page on Dec. 14 without first getting state approval, one of the conditions of the state law. Krysik is charged with failing to comply with registration of sexual offenders requirements, a felony, and making a false statement under penalty of law, a misdemeanor.10:52 p.m. Jan. 24 — Michael L. Sheaffer, 44, of Ford City lost control of his pickup truck and rolled over an embankment at Garretts Run and Rearick roads in Burrell Township. Police blamed the accident on the snow-covered road.

State Police, Mercer4:50 p.m. Friday — One person was hurt in a fiery, three-vehicle wreck on I-80 just west of Sandy Lake Road in Wolf Creek Township.The crash happened when John E. Miller, 68, of Jamestown lost control of his sport utility vehicle on the snow-covered highway after swerving to avoid a pair of tractor-trailers that were stopped in traffic.The SUV hit the side of the first rig driven by Stefanov Spasko, 31, of Palos Hills, Ill., and then struck the back of the second rig driven by Elliot A. Omlor, 35, of St. Augustine, Fla. Following the two collisions, Miller’s vehicle caught fire.Pine Township volunteer firefighters were called and put out the fire.Miller, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to the Grove City Medical Center with unknown injuries. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions.Superior Ambulance and the state Department of Transportation assisted police at the scene.

State Police, New Castle5:45 p.m. Tuesday — Madison R. Foust, 19, of Slippery Rock lost control of his car on an ice patch and struck the side of a tractor-trailer on Route 422 just east of Old Butler Road in Slippery Rock Township. Foust was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Bradley J. Gera, 53, of Mercer was driving the rig.2 a.m. Tuesday — Lea A. Beers, 23, of Harmony lost control of her car and struck a utility pole along Pleasant Hill Road in Perry Township, Lawrence County. Beers was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
