Monday — Scrap metal and other items were stolen from R.J. Brown River Towing in North Buffalo Township. Taken between March 1 and Monday were three metal timber heads, large stainless steel sheet, 55-gallon drum containing a heavy chain and pelican hooks and three electric motors.Butler Police12:52 p.m. Tuesday — A driver's coughing spell brought on by a cigarette was blamed for a two-vehicle wreck on Lincoln Avenue.The smoker, John W. Cumpston, 58, of Butler, told police he momentarily became distracted while coughing, causing the car he was driving to hit a car parked along the curb.Moments earlier, Jordan Gibson of Butler Township, the owner of the other vehicle, had just gotten out of the parked car with his son to walk the child to school.9:31 p.m. Monday — David J. Pfennigwerth, 26, was arrested on a bench warrant at his apartment in the 600 block of West New Castle Street. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on the warrant.5:17 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Jean L. Livengood, 59, of East Brady, Clarion County, struck a light pole in the upper parking lot of the Armco Credit Union on Hollywood Drive at Hansen Avenue.Livengood told police the crash happened when she swerved her car to avoid another car that pulled in front of her. She was not hurt but her car had to be towed away.
8:16 p.m. Tuesday — A medical helicopter flew an Allegheny County man to a Pittsburgh hospital after a sport utility vehicle struck the car he was driving at Route 356 and Great Belt Road in Jefferson Township. Jason Doymayer, no age given, of Allison Park suffered unknown injuries in the crash.The other driver, Forrest Bronder, 20, of Butler, was not hurt. Police said Bronder caused the collision when he ran a stop sign at the intersection.7:20 a.m. Tuesday — Ashley M. Klein, 29, of Butler suffered minor injuries when she swerved her car to avoid a deer and hit a tree along Kaiser Road just west of Jeanette Lane in Summit Township. Klein was wearing a seat belt.11:31 p.m. Monday — A Summit Township boy is accused of taking his mother's car without her permission. The child, who police did not identify, took the car from his mother's home in the 200 block of Freeport Road. Police said the boy was charged in juvenile court with unauthorized use of a vehicle.10:45 p.m. Monday — An unknown man, wearing only socks, broke into an unlocked apartment at South Rock Apartments on Kiester Road in Slippery Rock Township. The burglar apparently left empty-handed after the tenants saw him and called police.The suspect is described as being white, having a thin build and facial hair. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.4:52 p.m. Monday — At least one man was hurt in a head-on wreck on Route 8 in front of the Jiffy Mart convenience store in Center Township. William E. Tirk, 80 of Butler, one of the drivers, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.Police did not know if the other driver, Jay Toogood, 53, of Butler, was hurt in the wreck. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Police said Tirk was cited for making an improper left turn.Unionville volunteer firefighters assisted police at the scene.2:10 a.m. Feb. 23 — Robert Walters, 40, of Prospect was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 8 near McCandless Road in Center Township.
5:58 p.m. Tuesday — Devon M. Herbert, 21, of Harrisville was injured when he lost control of his sport utility vehicle and hit a tree along Amsterdam Road in Liberty Township. Herbert, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with moderate injuries. Police said he was cited for a lane violation.4:29 p.m. Tuesday — Jessica J. Mularski, 26, of Harrisville suffered minor injuries when a car rear-ended the car she was driving on Route 173 at the Grove City Medical Center in Pine Township. Mularski was stopped to make a turn into the hospital parking lot when her car was hit.The other driver, Charles D. Lee II, 35, of Grove City, was cited for following too closely to another vehicle, a police report said.
10 a.m. Sunday — One person was hurt in a single-vehicle wreck in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Tracy M. Goudas, 37, of Ellwood City was treated at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for moderate injuries in the crash.Police said the ice-covered road caused Goudas to lose control of her car and slam into a guardrail on Frew Mill Road just west of Cow Path Lane. She was wearing a seat belt. The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
