Tuesday — Whitney E. Anderson, 27, of Oakland Township was charged with driving under the influence stemming from a rear-end collision about 6:50 p.m. Nov. 28 at East Jefferson and South Cliff streets.Police said Anderson failed several field tests after the crash and was arrested. She refused to take a blood test.“On the way back to the station,” according to a police affidavit, “Anderson kept stating that she was drunk and to just take her to jail.”Monday — An unknown burglar or burglars broke into a three-story building housing several businesses at 127 E. Cunningham St. The break-in happened between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.A tenant discovered the crime after arriving for work Monday.Police said they did not immediately know how the suspect got into the building. But once inside, it appeared the burglar removed the hinges to the door to get inside the business on the top floor. Unspecified property worth $400 was taken.An unlocked door on the second floor possibly allowed for an easy entry into that business. Nothing was found missing there.Police said they have yet to turn up any surveillance video of the burglary and they have no suspects.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-287-7743.Monday — Police charged Thomas R. Bergbigler Jr., 40, of Butler with driving a vehicle not equipped with a court-ordered ignition interlock device and driving with a suspended license after they found him Sept. 11 passed out in a sport utility vehicle at Fisher's Towing on North Main Street.Officers were called to the business about 3:30 p.m. and found Bergbigler slumped over in the driver's seat of the vehicle in the rear parking lot, according to court documents. A medical crew treated the suspect, who regained consciousness.Police checked Bergbigler's driving status and learned that his license was suspended and he can only legally drive vehicles equipped with an ignition interlock system.That system requires a driver on a restricted license to blow into a tube that detects the presence of alcohol on the breath.The SUV that police found the suspect in did not have such a device. That vehicle is registered to Bergbigler's wife, documents said.Later, police reviewed video surveillance at or around the business that showed Bergbigler driving the SUV on North Cedar Street and pulling into Fisher's rear lot.Police noted in charging documents that the defendant has eight prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Tuesday — Police issued a reminder to residents to be on the guard for possible scams.A township woman, who police did not identify, was recently contacted by someone claiming to work for the International Fraud Commission. The caller told her that she won a large sum of money and would need to send a certified check for a processing fee.The woman, police said, did not send any money and instead alerted authorities.2:30 p.m. Dec. 6 — A 17-year-old student at Butler High School allegedly attacked a Butler Intermediate High School student who was waiting for a bus in front of the intermediate high school. The victim suffered a swollen lip. Police said the suspect, who they did not identify, is charged with simple assault and harassment.

Tuesday — Police reported they are investigating last month's burglary at an apartment in the 300 block of West Main Street. Unspecified items valued at $1,970 were taken in the break-in that happened between 5 and 9:30 p.m. Nov. 21.Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.Dec. 11 — Police charged Wendi D. Madden, 44, of Grove City after she allegedly falsified a background check in an attempt to gain employment. She is charged with forgery, tampering with records or identification, and tampering with public records of information.Dec. 11 — Justin W. Moore, 30, of Mercer was arrested on charges he entered a residence in the 100 block of North Broad Street without the tenant's permission shortly before midnight Dec. 7. The tenant discovered him inside the home.Moore was arraigned on a charge of trespass, and released on unsecured bail.

12:40 a.m. Monday — Michele M. Dipippa, 20, of Renfrew was hurt when the sport utility vehicle she was driving struck a tree after sliding off snow-covered South Benbrook Road just north of West Brewster Road in Center Township.Dipippa, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries. Police said she was cited for driving too fast for conditions.9:30 a.m. Friday — Simon J. Miller, 26, of Fenelton was arrested after he allegedly tried to return unpurchased merchandise to the Boscov's store, Clearview Mall in Center Township. He was arraigned on a charge of retail theft and placed in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail.Dec. 8 — An unknown vandal overnight fired orange paint balls at vehicles and homes in the 100 block of McGrady Hollow Road in Summit Township. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

11:56 a.m. Dec. 11 — Casey M. McBrien, 28, of Parker lost control of his sport utility vehicle and crashed into a garage in Richland Township, Clarion County.McBrien told police that his foot slipped off the brake and accidentally hit the accelerator as he entered a driveway on Shoup Road just north of Route 58. His 2008 Jeep Patriot traveled about 15 feet, slamming through a garage door and hitting the back of a parked pickup truck.5:10 p.m. Thursday — Two Rimersburg men were caught hunting on property in Toby Township without the owner’s permission. The suspects, who police did not identify, face trespass charges.Oct. 25 — A 21-year-old Sligo man allegedly stole unspecified auto parts from a metal bin outside Myers Tire Service on Main Street in Rimersburg. Police said the suspect, who they did not identify, faces theft charges.
