4 p.m. Tuesday — Timothy Kovocovsky, 48, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting 17 DVD movies worth $407 at Walmart. Kovocovsky faces a charge of retail theft.10:55 a.m. Tuesday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Robert Sheptak, 61, of Lyndora rear-ended a car on Route 68 near Eberhart Road. In turn, the collision forced the car, driven by Mickey Uram, 63, of Butler, into the back of another car, driven by John Whitfield, 64, of Butler.Police cited Sheptak for careless driving.
Wednesday — An unknown thief stole a copper radiator in a burglary at a Route 19 business in Muddy Creek Township. The break-in at Meyer Builders Inc. occurred between 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.9:50 p.m. Tuesday — Someone threw a rock that hit a security guard at Marcellus shale drilling site on Leisie Road in Forward Township. The guard, a 49-yerar-old Fayette County man, was hit the face. He was not injured.The unknown vandal also threw other miscellaneous items at the lighting at the site, owned by Range Resources.
12:26 p.m. Tuesday — Richard J. Fisher, 13, of Portersville was hurt when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving crashed in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The ATV flipped and rolled over after the boy tried to cross Route 422 near the Route 19 exit ramp and hit the back of a pickup truck.The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries. He was cited for operating an ATV on the road. The pickup, driven by Dennis L. Barnhart, 53, of Butler, had minor damage.2:50 a.m. Sunday — Craig A. Morrow, 30, of New Castle was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his car hit a tree on Hickernell Road near Route 488 in Perry Township, Lawrence County.Morrow also is accused of unrelated charges stemming from an alleged assault Sunday in Perry Township. Those charges include simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.In addition to DUI, he is charged in the wreck with driving without a license, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, failing to keep right and not wearing a seat belt.Morrow was arraigned on the charges in both cases, and placed in the Lawrence County Jail on $10,000 bail.Sunday — An unspecified amount of coins, a laptop computer and a bicycle were stolen in a burglary at a home on Muddy Creek Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The break-in happened between Aug. 14 and Sunday.
