11:01 p.m. Friday — Francis S. Coy, 52, of Butler faces a list of tickets following a traffic stop at the West End Plaza. Coy also had a suspected crack pipe that officers found in a shorts pocket.Police said Coy was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, driving without inspection, driving without registration and unauthorized use of a license plate.
6 p.m. Saturday — Three men are suspected of attacking a 41-year-old man at his home in the 2000 block of West Sunbury Road in Marion Township. The victim was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Police said they are still investigating the suspects' identities.Saturday — David A. Symer, 47, of Sarver was arrested after allegedly violating a 44-year-old woman's protection from abuse order at an undisclosed location in Butler County. Symer, who is charged with the PFA violation, is free on $5,000 bail.7 p.m. Friday — A 17-year-old Pittsburgh boy escaped from the Summit Academy reform school on Herman Road in Summit Township. Police and the school staff found the boy after a two-hour search. He was returned to the facility.2:29 p.m. Friday — A Washington County man was hurt when he swerved his water truck to avoid a car that crossed into his lane and crashed on Route 38 in Mahood Road in Oakland Township. The truck overturned and damaged a gas station sign. Brandon R. Randolph, 23, of Washington, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.The driver of the car, who police did not identify, was cited for a stop sign violation.
Friday — A suspected arsonist was badly burned after he accidentally set himself on fire in Paint Township. Robert E. Lehnortt, 54, of Shippenville was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh with burns to his legs and waist.Police said Lehnortt was injured after he poured gasoline inside of an 8-foot-by- 8-foot detached shed next to his home on Whisner Road. He lit a piece of cardboard on fire and threw it inside the shed in an attempt to burn the shed, according to a police report.Lehnortt was standing in the doorway when the gasoline exploded and fire escaped through the doorway, catching him on fire. Police said the investigation continues.The Shippenville-Elk Township Volunteer Fire Department was called. Firefighters from Knox, Strattanville and Clarion assisted.July 29 — A welder was stolen from a construction site in Richland Township. Amelie Construction & Supply of Saxonburg owns the welder that was taken between July 26 and 29. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police at 814-226-1710.
2:28 a.m. Sunday — Dale Orris, 48, of Kittanning was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 28 near exit 18 in South Buffalo Township.6 p.m. Saturday — A wallet and handgun were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Christy Avenue in Ford Cliff.4:42 p.m. Saturday — A 17-year-old Kittanning boy, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Route 422 in East Franklin Township. The boy, who was stopped for speeding, also did not have a license.Troopers found the boy and a backseat passenger, Corey Smith, 24, of Worthington, with suspected marijuana and drug contraband. Both face misdemeanor drug charges.4 p.m. Saturday — A 15-year-old Freeport boy, who police did not identify, allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl near the Allegheny River in Freeport. The girl, from Natrona Heights, Allegheny County, told police that she has known the boy for the past three years. She said he sexually assaulted her after they went for a walk.
Wednesday — Brandon S. Alford, 21, of Harrisville and Tony L. Ringer Jr., 21, of Jackson Center, at preliminary hearings, were both held for court on charges they stole pumps, electrical wire and lead weights between Sept. 6 and 13 from wells on state gamelands off Reeds Furnace Road, Sandy Lake Township.Alford and Ringer are charged with theft and conspiracy to commit theft. The defendants are free on $15,000 unsecured bail each.
10:38 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Cody J. Crawford, 18, of Pittsburgh crashed into two trees along Route 19 just south of Countryview Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Police said Crawford was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.7:10 a.m. Friday — A car driven by Charles T. Curry, 63, of Slippery Rock and a sport utility vehicle driven by Donna L. Harrison, 61, of Renfrew collided at Old Route 19 and Harlansburg Road in Scott Township. Police said Curry was cited for a stop sign violation.3:30 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Haley P. Cialella, 20, of New Castle rear-ended another car on Route 65 at Hogue Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Police said Cialella was cited for a traffic control device violation. Yusuf Amudi, 27, of New Castle was the other driver.11:50 a.m. Wednesday — Vern R. Sipe Jr., no age given, of New Castle was arrested on charges he stole two women's purses after breaking into a pickup truck at McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Sipe was arraigned on theft charges and placed in the Lawrence County Jail on $25,000 bail.
