Butler PoliceToday — Police charged Samuel S. Hollenberger IV, 37, of Evans City with theft of services for allegedly failing to return an oxygen cylinder he rented in November 2009 from Greco Gas Inc. on Kittanning Street.The 250-cubic-foot cylinder was 444 days past due and Hollenberger owed the store $118 for the rental item, according to a police report.1:39 p.m. Sunday — A West Sunbury woman and three young children were hurt when their sport utility vehicle crashed and rolled over on Mercer Street.Shawyna L. McMaster, 31, and the children — 9 and 6 years old and 22 months old — were all taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The woman and two older children were wearing seat belts and the infant was in a child safety seat.Police said McMaster lost control of her 2003 Jeep Liberty on the rain-slickened road as she approached Memorial Drive. The SUV went up the embankment and rolled onto its driver’s side.Bystanders helped get the children out of the vehicle before police got there. By the time officers arrived, McMaster was getting out of the Jeep herself. She complained of head pain while the 6-year-old complained of stomach pain.3:17 p.m. Sunday — Krystle I. Gregg, 31, of Butler Township was arrested after police found her staggering and apparently intoxicated behind a Laundromat on North Monroe Street. A search of her purse turned up a used syringe and spoon.Gregg was placed in the Butler County Prison after officers learned she was wanted on a bench warrant. Police also cited her for public drunkenness and possession of drug paraphernalia.Saturday — An unknown thief smashed out the window of a car on North Jackson Street and stole a purse and $25. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,000. The vehicle break-in happened between 2:30 and 10 a.m.Saturday — A Garmin global positioning system device and an Apple iPod docking station were stolen from a vehicle in the 400 block of Brown Avenue. The theft happened between 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. The stolen property is worth $150.
Butler County Drug Task ForceSaturday — Two suspected drug dealers were arrested on charges they sold heroin in the county.The suspects, Jesse J. Markovitz, 33, of Butler and Terrell B. Campbell, 25, of East Pittsburgh, were placed in the Butler County Prison following their arrests.Markovitz is accused of selling six stamp bags of heroin April 13 in Butler.Campbell was arrested after allegedly selling 50 stamp bags of suspected heroin in a controlled drug buy Saturday in Cranberry Township. Officers said Campbell was searched and found with an additional 97 bags of suspected heroin.Both suspects were arraigned on drug trafficking and possession charges. Markovitz and Campbell are in the county prison on $25,000 and $50,00 bail, respectively.
State Police, Butler4:35 p.m. Sunday — Shawn Patrick McKnight, 30, of Summit Township was arrested after he allegedly pointed a pistol at a “left-lane lingerer” in an apparent case of road rage on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township.Police said McKnight got angry when 25-year-old Franchesca Rapp of Clintonville, Venango County, did not move her vehicle from the passing lane to the slow lane. Rapp was not hurt.McKnight was placed in the Butler County Prison to await arraignment this morning on charges of reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and simple assault.3:31 a.m. Sunday — David J. Christie, 49, of Freeport was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole along Winfield Road just east of Cornplanter Road in Winfield Township.1 p.m. Sunday — Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle crash in Jefferson Township. The wreck happened when a sport utility vehicle driven by Allyson Gavel, 18, of Cabot turned into the path of a minivan driven by Robert Dunkle, 51, of Karns City.The SUV, following the collision, struck a car driven by Paul Kelley, 40, of Sarver, which was stopped at a stop sign. Gavel and Dunkle, who both were wearing seat belts, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.Police said Gavel was cited for making an improper left turn.9:50 a.m. Sunday — A 48-year-old Valencia man, who police did not identify, allegedly violated a 43-year-old Valencia woman’s protective order at the Crossway Church on Davis Road in Middlesex Township.10:26 a.m. Saturday — Cars driven by Emily J. Halpern, 22, of Williamstown, N.J., and Theresa A. Thomas 40, of New Castle collided on Route 422 near the Pilot convenience store in Muddy Creek Township.Police said Halpern was cited for not stopping at a red light.Saturday — An unknown thief stole 13 plants from Heasley’s Nurseries on Freeport Road in Summit Township. The plants, worth a combined $140, were taken between 9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.2:30 p.m. Friday — Michael E. Page, 24, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on I-79 in Cranberry Township.2:02 p.m. Friday — Catherine A. Heasley, 57, of Butler was hurt when she lost control of her SUV and crashed into a ditch on Route 228 just west of Limbacher Lane in Jefferson Township. Heasley, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. Police said she was cited for a lane violation.
State Police, Franklin3:14 p.m. Saturday — An Emlenton man was among at least five people hurt in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction wreck on Route 257 in Cranberry Township, Venango CountyPolice said Albert R. Texter, 63, of Emlenton caused the crash when his pickup truck rear-ended a car driven by Mark J. Lavery, 51, of Pleasantville, which was stopped behind two other vehicles at a red light.The collision pushed Lavery’s vehicle into the back of a car driven by Sonny A. Carbaugh, 27, of Seneca. In turn, Carbaugh’s vehicle was pushed into the back of a sport utility vehicle driven by Mary J. Lindenberg, 68, of Seneca.Texter, Lavery, Carbaugh and Lavery’s two passengers were taken to UPMC Northwest in Seneca with minor injuries. They all were wearing seat belts. Police did not immediately know if anyone else was hurt. Texter was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.
State Police, Mercer11:45 a.m. Thursday — A mechanical problem caused Gary A. Freyermuth, 61, of Cochranton to lose control of his pickup truck and crash into a group of trees along Interstate 79 just north of Blacktown Road in Springfield Township. Police said Freyermuth had no power steering after the truck experienced powertrain failure.
