5:20 p.m. Wednesday — An 8-year-old Butler boy was hurt when he rode his bicycle into the side of a sport utility vehicle at Brady and Rattigan streets. Christopher Hartman, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. His condition was not known this morning.Police said the boy rode his bike through a stop sign and hit the SUV driven by Belinda Nuth Sloboda, 40, of Butler.11:26 a.m. Wednesday — A car driven by Kenneth R. Jones, 59, of Gibsonia crashed into a light pole while turning from CDC Drive into the Pullman Plaza shopping center. Jones told police that he did not see the pole.Wednesday — An unknown thief stole a bicycle, valued at $600, from the back porch of an apartment in the 200 block of North Chestnut Street. The bike is a black and silver, Giant model.Wednesday — Police reported they have an arrest warrant for Christopher Lee Earnest, 30, no known address, who is accused of stealing an Internet router, valued at $500, from his mother's apartment on Walker Avenue last week.Earnest's mother had recently kicked out the suspect from her home because of “drug issues,” according to a police report. He left but did not return his key to the apartment.The victim told police that she had left the apartment earlier Friday afternoon, and when she returned she noticed the wireless router was missing. Police said Earnest is charged with theft.
May 20 — Police charged Phillip T. Anderson, 30, of Butler in the May 17 break-in of an apartment at the Old Plank Estates. He allegedly made off with video game-related items.Police said Anderson later sold the items at a store in the township. He is charged with burglary, trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft by deception. He is free on his own recognizance.
Tuesday — Police filed drunken driving charges against Michael J. Donnelly, 59, of Jefferson Township, who was allegedly more than three-and-a-half times the legal limit for alcohol about 11:45 p.m. May 12 when his sport utility vehicle struck a fire hydrant and tree along Ekastown Road.The crash knocked the hydrant off its base but Donnelly did not stop, according to court documents. The SUV traveled through a yard in the 200 block of Ekastown Road and hit a large rock. The vehicle continued on and hit a gas meter, causing a natural gas leak outside William Weber's home.The SUV finally stopped but only after it slammed into a large tree.Buffalo Township volunteer firefighters had to extricate Donnelly, who was badly injured. A medical helicopter flew him to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.A blood test later showed his blood-alcohol level of 0.298 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Donnelly is charged with driving under the influence, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving at an unsafe speed, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.9:40 p.m. Monday — Jeremy M. Flood, 37, of Forward Township was arrested after he allegedly threatened a woman at her Park Drive home.Flood is accused of showing up drunk at Megan Shirley's home the previous night and grabbing her by the neck, according to court documents. He allegedly threatened to smash a glass ashtray in her face.Shirley told police she asked the suspect to leave several times. She warned him if he did not go, she would call police.But Flood had his own warning for the alleged victim, documents said. He told Shirley that if she called police, she “would be looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life,” a police affidavit said.Additionally, he allegedly said he would return to her home once he got out of jail.Police were eventually called to the home and arrested Flood there. He was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.
Tuesday — Kevin C. Broskey, 22, of Penn Township is one of three suspects accused of misdemeanor drug possession stemming from a May 15 search of an apartment at Villa Vista Estates in Middlesex Township.The search turned up suspected heroin and Suboxone as well as other contraband.Along with Broskey, the apartment's tenants, Richard J. Coward, 40, and Amber L. Coward, 35, are charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
7:45 a.m. Wednesday — David L. Palmer, 58, of Karns City was hurt when he lost control of his car and struck two traffic signs on Route 68 about two-tenths of a mile west of Shearer Road in Oakland Township. Palmer, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Police said he was cited for careless driving.Wednesday — Police charged Alvin G. Gray, 71, of Butler with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop at 5:05 p.m. April 11 at Route 308 and Shanahan Drive in Center Township. In addition to driving under the influence, Gray is charged with disregarding traffic lanes and driving at an unsafe speed.8:30 p.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Amy L. Gower, 41, of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, struck a deer on Interstate 79 in Worth Township.5:31 a.m. Monday — Jonathan L. Smith, 26, of Cabot was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Winfield and Clearfield roads in Winfield Township.Monday — An unknown thief stole ceramic rabbit and squirrel garden ornaments at the home of a 75-year-old woman in Forward Township. A red plastic flower ornament also was taken. The theft happened between 12:30 and 5:30 p.m.May 21 — Melanie O. Kaplin, 24, of Slippery Rock waived to court a charge of felony retail theft for allegedly shoplifting several items April 20 from the Dollar General store on Route 8 in Center Township.
