Butler Police5:16 p.m. Saturday — Three boys were each caught shoplifting a set of headphones from the Kmart store in Pullman Square. Police cited the boys — two 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old — with retail theft.Butler Township Police5:05 p.m. May 13 — James McKissick II, 24, of Butler drove off after his car rear-ended another car on Route 8 at Litman Road. The other driver, Ruth Dally, 72, of Butler and several witnesses were able to get the license plate number of McKissick’s car, which helped identify him. Police said he was cited for hit-and-run.

State Police, Butler10:31 a.m. Sunday — A pickup truck driven by Billy J. Abrams, 32, of Butler and a car driven by Cathy L. Davison, 59, of Harmony collided on Saxonburg Road just south of Lindsay Road in Summit Township. Police said Abrams was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.Friday — Two youths were caught with a small knife and a multi-tool knife at Dassa McKinney Elementary School on Hooker Road in Clay Township. The youths brought the knives onto school property between May 9 and Friday. Police said no charges were filed in the case.Thursday — An unknown burglar stole a Sony PlayStation 3, an Xbox 360 and a Vizio 32-inch flat-screen television from a home on Bluff Avenue in Mars. The break-in happened between 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and 10:30 p.m. Thursday.5:45 a.m. Wednesday — A pickup truck driven by Christina M. McElwain, 40, of Ford City struck a deer on Route 28 just north of Horseshoe Drive in South Buffalo Township.2:07 a.m. Wednesday — Jonathan P. McCauley, 50, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 at the West Hills exit in East Franklin Township.Wednesday — An unknown thief stole a 42-inch flat-screen television from the sun porch of a home on Windy Flats Road in South Bend Township. The TV was taken between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday.May 10 — A Vizio 42-inch flat-screen TV worth $800 was stolen in a burglary at The Corner Bar on Grant Street in East Butler. The break-in happened May 9 or 10.May 5 — An unknown vandal broke out the windows of two doors at a trailer home in the 400 block of Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township. The vandalism happened between April 27 and May 5.

State Police, Kittanning9:25 a.m. May 12 — Five people, two from Butler County, were hurt in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction crash in Harrison Township, Allegheny County.The wreck happened when a sport utility vehicle driven by Keith Fend, no age given, of Butler struck the back of a car on Route 28 just south of exit 16.Moments before the crash, police said, Fend took his eyes off the road to handle his global positioning system device. He rear-ended the car driven by Lynne Boyer, no age given, of Kittanning. The collision in turn forced Boyer’s vehicle into the back of a car driven by Sandra Harkabusic, no age given, of Apollo.Police said both cars at the time were slowing for a backlog of traffic due to a prior wreck south of exit 15.Fend’s vehicle ended up hitting a tree. Citizens Hose Company volunteer firefighters had to extricate Fend and his passenger Joanne Fend, no age given of Butler, from the SUV.Joanne Fend was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with moderate injuries. Keith Fend was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights with moderate injuries.Also treated at Allegheny Valley Hospital for moderate injuries were Harkabusic, her passenger, Samuel Harkabusic, no age given, of Apollo, and Boyer. All the injured were wearing seat belts.6:10 a.m. May 12 — Donald L. Robinson, 45, of Freeport was injured when he accidentally caused a rear-end collision after suffering an apparent medical emergency on Route 28 at the Burtner Road overpass in Harrison Township, Allegheny County.The emergency caused Robinson to stop his car in the southbound lane, a police report said. Jenna E. Montebell, 26, of Kittanning swerved her car to avoid the crash but struck the back of Robinson’s vehicle.Montebell was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with major injuries. Robinson was treated at Allegheny Valley Hospital for moderate injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

State Police, Mercer7:50 a.m. Friday — Joel B. Walker, 26, of Grove City was arrested after neighbors spotted him allegedly breaking into a home on Centertown Road in Pine Township. He tried to get away in a van but troopers caught him a short time later.Walker later admitted to the break-in and other burglaries in the area, according to a police report. He is suspected of taking scrap metal and power tools in the crimes.He was arraigned, in connection with Friday’s break-in, on charges of burglary, trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, possessing instruments of crime and driving with a suspended license. Walker is being held in the Mercer County Jail on $50,000 bail.Police noted that they continue to investigate the other suspected burglaries.

State Police, New Castle6:30 p.m. Thursday — David Aiken, 66, of Portersville allegedly assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute on Route 488 in Perry Township.Aiken is charged with simple assault and harassment.The alleged victim, 63-year-old Patricia Aiken, suffered minor injuries.
