Butler Police5:34 p.m. Saturday — Victor J. Zilinek Jr., 30, of Jamestown, N.Y., was arrested for felony shoplifting after he was caught stealing a BB pistol from the Kmart store at Pullman Square.Zilinek is accused of taking the $60 gun from its packaging and sticking it in his pants, according to a police report. When police got to the store and questioned the suspect, he gave officers a bogus name.A three-time convicted shoplifter, Zilinek was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and a charge of false identification to police. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail, following arraignment.Butler Twp. Police9:24 a.m. Wednesday — Toby S. King, 18, of Butler was arrested after he was found with suspected marijuana at Butler Senior High School.School staff initially confronted him for “smelling like burnt marijuana,” according to a police report. He was also found with the drug contraband and tobacco.Police charged King with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and using tobacco in school.
State Police, Butler2:30 p.m. Thursday — Several pieces of jewelry were stolen in a burglary at a home on Keasey Road in Winfield Township. The break-in happened between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.12:55 p.m. Thursday — An unknown hit-and-run driver struck a car on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township. The suspect drove away north on the highway. Trista A. Hackenburg, 28, of Raeford, N.C., was driving the car.4:30 a.m. Thursday — An unidentified vehicle struck and snapped a cable support for a utility pole, shearing the pole in half along Route 68 in Connoquenessing. The vehicle, believed to be a Pontiac, then hit a stop sign before the leaving the scene, headed west.Thursday — A pickup truck driven by Benjamin C. Ziegler, 42, of Chicora struck a mailbox and utility pole along Center Drive in Oakland Township. Police said Ziegler was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road. A police news release did not list a time of the accident.Wednesday — A Ford engine block and two extension cords were stolen on Victory Road about six-tenths of a mile north of Route 228 in Clinton Township.Wednesday — An unknown identity thief used a Winfield Township woman’s personal information to file a fraudulent tax return.Monday — Michelle Ann Coulter, 37, was arrested after allegedly assaulting her 15-year-old daughter during a domestic dispute at their Sunburst Court home in Center Township. The girl suffered a minor injury.Coulter was arraigned on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.Sunday — An unknown vandal broke several vehicle windows at Pry’s Towing on Franklin Road in Slippery Rock. Damage in the vandalism that happened between noon and 1 p.m. was estimated at $60.5 a.m. March 16 — A dozen aluminum Chevy S-10 rims, 25 Ford truck batteries and an unknown amount of copper wire were stolen in a burglary at Kevin Shuring’s shop yard on Route 19 in Portersville. Shuring apparently surprised the burglar who drove away in a small car with a loud exhaust.The car was last seen headed south on Route 19. The stolen property is valued at $700.
