5:33 p.m. Tuesday — A pickup truck driven by Paul M. Kotek, 20, of Butler skidded out of controlled and struck a utility pole along Mercer Road at the south entrance to Rose Hill Cemetery.3 p.m. Tuesday — A 16-year-old boy with a knife was arrested at the Butler Intermediate High School. The boy, who is not a student at the school, was stopped after he was spotted brandishing a knife. He was searched and found with a second knife.The boy did not use either knife in a threatening manner toward any student or faculty member.He is charged in juvenile court with possessing a weapon on school property and defiant trespass.2:50 p.m. Monday — Two boys were cited for disorderly conduct after they got into a fight at the Butler Intermediate High School. The boys, 13 and 14, were waiting to board the bus home when they started to grapple.
Friday — Police charged Ginny L. Glatz, 49, of Valencia with drunken and drugged driving, stemming from a 5:24 p.m. March 1 traffic stop on Mars-Valencia Road.After failing field sobriety tests, Glatz was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test. The results showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.160 percent, according to court documents, or double the 0.08 percent level considered intoxicated under state law.Additionally, the results revealed the presence of THC, the hallucinogen found in marijuana.Glatz is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the driving of a controlled substance, failing to keep right and disregarding traffic lanes.
May 31 — Police charged Jared J. Rowley, 21, of Cranberry Township with DUI, stemming from a traffic stop on Route 19.While doing field sobriety tests, Rowley asked officers to stop. “I can't do it, just arrest me,” he said, according to a police affidavit. He acknowledged he had been drinking and was likely legally intoxicated.He was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test. The results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.164 percent, more than twice the 0.08 percent level considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to DUI, police charged Rowley with disregarding traffic lanes.
May 29 — Jeremy B. Tharp, 32, of Herber Springs, Ark., was charged with DUI in connection with a 5:30 a.m. May 11 traffic stop on South Main Street.He was taken to Ellwood City Hospital for a blood test after failing field sobriety tests. The results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.169 percent, double the 0.08 percent level considered intoxicated under state law.Tharp also is charged with careless driving.
Wednesday — A red and black Sears Craftsman high-wheel trimmer was stolen from a home's garage at Glennwood Way and Henricks Road in Center Township. The theft happened between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.State Police, Kittanning1:20 a.m. today — A Worthington woman and teenager were not hurt when the car they were riding in caught fire on Boltz Road in East Franklin Township. Paula J. Moorhead, 45, the driver, stopped her 1999 Mazda 626 near Bear Street, where she and a passenger, Eli A. Haggerty, 19, of Worthington, got out.The car was engulfed in flames by the time Worthington volunteer firefighters got there.6:48 p.m. Wednesday — A teenager was allegedly under the influence when he was stopped driving more than 100 mph on Route 28 in South Buffalo Township. The suspect, Harry A. Schoeller Jr., 19, of Apollo, faces DUI and drug-related charges.Police said they were doing a speed enforcement detail when they clocked Schoeller traveling 109 mph.
