1:04 a.m. Sunday — Three people were arrested following a family squabble at a West New Castle Street home. When officers got there, they found Alexander J. Sovek, 20, on top of and hitting his stepfather, 50-year-old Thomas L. Fix Jr., about the head and back. Both men live at the home.Fix later resisted police, according to a police report, and an officer had to use a Taser on him.Meanwhile, Nathan D. Defelice, 20, of Lyndora came onto the front porch as police tried to detain Sovek and Fix. After police told him to leave, he allegedly pushed an officer. He was subdued and handcuffed.All three suspects were arrested and placed in the Butler County Prison following arraignment. Sovek is charged with simple assault and underage drinking. Fix is charged with resisting arrest. Defelice is charged with obstructing the administration of law enforcement and underage drinking.2:10 a.m. Saturday — Two men are accused of breaking another man's nose during a beating at Center Avenue and Monroe Street.The alleged victim, Chad M. Spahn, 22, of Boyers, was bleeding from his bruised face when he flagged down a police cruiser. Spahn said he was walking to visit a friend on the city's Southside when a car stopped at the intersection.He said two men jumped out of the car and attacked him, hitting him about the head. He said when he fell to the ground, they kicked him.While speaking to police, Spahn splattered blood on the side of the cruiser. He later was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and treated for a fractured nose.Police, meanwhile, spotted two men running in the area of Maple Avenue and Spring Street. Officers caught the suspects — Eric P. Steighner, 23, of Jefferson Township and Alexander C. Fuellgraf, 22, of Penn Township — who matched the description of Spahn's attackers.Steighner admitted he and Fuellgraf punched Spahn; he denied they kicked him. Both are charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Spahn also is charged with disorderly conduct.11:27 p.m. Friday — Four men were arrested following a melee at the Eau Claire Inn.Police said the bartender called to report a fight there had gotten out of control. When officers arrived, they found two men — Bradley S. Kriley, 38, of Butler and Matthew D. Sylvester, 23, of Zelienople — fighting in the middle of the street. Some 15 to 20 others were in front of the bar. Butler Township police and state police were called to assist.Later, according to a police report, Joseph D. McGee, 27, and Luke M. McGee, 25, both of Renfrew, were identified as being involved in the fight.Officers noted that another man, Timothy Wissinger, was bleeding profusely from the nose. Wissinger told police he was in the bar when the fight broke out. He left but was sucker punched in the face when he walked out the door, a police report said.Wissinger, who did not see who hit him, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for a broken nose.Kriley, Sylvester, Joseph McGee and Luke McGee are all charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.12:42 p.m. Thursday — Tracy L. Powers, 40, of Butler is accused of taking $339 worth of items, including a Nintendo video game console, from the Kmart in Pullman Square while she worked there. Powers is charged with retail theft.Dec. 12 — A red, Craftsman snowblower was reported stolen from the yard of a Cleveland Street home. The 24-inch Snow Thrower, valued at $200, had been secured with a lock; however, the unknown thief cut the lock.

Midnight Monday — Stephanie Brown, 23, of Butler was arrested after she allegedly assaulted 29-year-old Ryan Schramm of Butler at an apartment building on Morton Avenue. Brown allegedly hit Schramm several times and threw him into a coffee table. Schramm got up, police said, and spit at Brown.Police got to the building and found Schramm bleeding and missing two front teeth. Brown is charged with simple assault and harassment. Schramm is charged with harassment.Monday — Police reported they are investigating several weekend thefts of unlocked vehicles in the area of Muntz and Morton avenues. Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.1:55 p.m. Saturday — An unknown would-be thief pried open a car door and went through a woman's wallet in the Walmart parking lot at Butler Commons; however, nothing was taken. Police remind shoppers to keep valuables out of sight when leaving their vehicles.12:42 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Katherine Flood, 54, of Butler rear-ended a pickup truck on Route 356 at Moraine Pointe Plaza. Carolyn Jordan, 68, of Hilliards was driving the pickup.4 a.m. Saturday — Matt Scott, 30, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly stole food and alcohol from the kitchen at the Days Inn on Route 8 South. Scott is charged with trespass, theft and public drunkenness.7:41 p.m. Friday — Wendy K. Safranek, 35, of Butler is accused of shoplifting $342 worth of food, clothing and craft items from the Walmart store in Butler Commons. Safranek is charged with retail theft.5:43 p.m. Friday — Three people were hurt when cars driven by Karen Wirtz, 42, of Templeton and Linda Lynn, 48, of Butler collided in Butler Commons. Lynn and a passenger in her car, Jamie Lynn, 26, of Butler, and a 17-year-old passenger in Wirtz‘s car, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with injuries. Police said Wirtz was cited for a stop sign violation.1:01 p.m. Friday — Lorri Reay, 44, of Hooker is accused of switching price tags and purchasing items at lesser value at the Walmart in Butler Commons. Reay is charged with felony retail theft.

7:50 p.m. Sunday — Two women were hurt when a car and sport utility vehicle collided on Route 228 in Clinton Township. Nicole D. Martinez, 22, of Saxonburg, the SUV driver, was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry with an unknown injury.The other driver, Lauren E. Laing, 21, of Gibsonia, who suffered a minor injury, was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, according to a police report.Sunday — An unknown burglar broke into the Happy Hunter's Sportsman's Club on Chicora-Fenelton Road in Donegal Township. A police news release did not say if anything was taken in the burglary that happened between 1 and 10 a.m.7:10 a.m. Dec. 13 — A car driven by Timothy E. Bouchard, 45, of Creighton, Allegheny County, and a pickup truck driven by Timothy W. Crisman, 54, of Butler collided on snow- and ice-covered Saxonburg Boulevard in Clinton Township.

10:51 p.m. Dec. 13 — An Ohio woman was hurt when the tractor truck she was driving crashed and rolled over on snow-covered Interstate 80 near Cranberry Road in Pine Township. The truck slid into several small trees. Mirsada Causevic, 40, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with moderate injuries.Dec. 10 — A EFCO chain saw was stolen in a burglary at a home on Centertown Road in Pine Township. The break-in happened between Nov. 19 and Dec. 10.

11:30 p.m. Sunday — William D. Dunstan, 64, of Portersville was hurt when the pickup truck he was driving struck a deer at Old Route 422 and Princeton Station Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Dunstan, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.
