A Center Township man will be heading to state prison after being sentenced in county court Wednesday to more than four years for sexually assaulting a young girl between 2003 and 2013.

Michael D. Hedglin, 45, was sentenced to 4½ to 11 years in a state correctional institution by President Judge Thomas Doerr. He was also ordered to pay court costs and restitution.

Hedglin pleaded guilty Nov. 8 to felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 16 years old before Judge Timothy McCune.

He was initially charged with felony rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with serious bodily injury, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, misdemeanor charges of indecent assault and indecent exposure, as well as other sexual assault-related charges, after he was accused of sexually assaulting a young girl when she was 3-years-old in 2003, and again in 2013, when she was 13.

The girl — now 17 — disclosed the assault to a clergy member at her church, and later told a forensic interviewer with the Butler County Alliance for Children about what happened. The first assault occurred in Butler Township and the second about 10 years later in Center Township.

The girl said Hedglin told her not to tell anyone, police said.

Police said Hedglin admitted to the sexual contact in an interview with officers.
