Tuesday — James H. Matson, 63, of Butler was arraigned on charges he threatened to kill a man during an altercation last week at a Greenview Gardens apartment.

Police said they were called around 10:35 p.m. March 17 to the apartment, where they spoke to the victim and two women, one of whom was Matson’s former girlfriend

He allegedly pushed one woman before hitting the ex-girlfriend with his hand, according to court documents. She fell backward into a chair, which knocked a picture off the wall, hitting a 3-year-old child in the room.

The man who was in the apartment stepped in and while escorting Matson out, documents said, the defendant threatened to kill him.

Matson was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault and harassment. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

3:13 a.m. Friday — Stephanie M. Bonini, 27, of Butler Township was caught with suspected drug contraband following a traffic stop at East Muntz and Morton avenues. She was a passenger in the car that was pulled over for having an expired registration.

A subsequent inventory search of the car turned up a crack pipe in the glove box where Bonini had been seated, according to court documents. She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

10:05 p.m. March 19 — Austin G. Harmon, 23, of Butler was allegedly caught with a stamp bag of heroin after he was arrested on a bench warrant at a convenience store parking lot on West Jefferson Street.

Harmon, who was placed in the Butler County Prison for the warrant, is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

8:28 a.m. Sunday — One person was hurt when vehicles driven by Aaron M. Huggins, 30, and Tonya Briggs, 44, both of Butler collided at Route 68 and Meridian Road. Huggins’ passenger, who police did not identify, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries.

Police cited Huggins for running a red light.

March 14 — Police charged Hope E. Charlton, 32, and Steven W. Charlton, 42, both of Butler in connection with a January shoplifting incident at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. They are accused of failing to scan eight items valued at a combined $50.40 while using a self-checkout register Jan. 5.

Hope Charlton is charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and conspiracy. Steven W. Charlton is charged with a summary count of retail theft and a misdemeanor count of conspiracy.

March 12 — Matthew G. Pelczarski, 25, of Saxonburg was charged with being more than double the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a traffic stop last month at Dinnerbell Road and Route 8. Police said he was stopped after an officer saw his pickup truck drift backward more than four feet at a red light.

Pelczarski told police that he was coming from a bar in Buffalo Township and that he had consumed about five beers, according to court documents. A portable breath test device allegedly indicated that he had alcohol in his system and police took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.193 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

Pelczarski is charged with driving under the influence.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock University Police[/naviga:h3]

Feb. 27 — Police charged Joshua J. Tombari, 20, of Lyndonville, N.Y., with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop earlier in the month of Kiester Road. Police said they stopped him Feb. 10 for having no headlights on and faulty taillights.

Police asked to see Tombari’s vehicle registration, according to court documents said, and when the defendant opened the glove box, an office noticed what appeared to be a marijuana grinder.

Tombari admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier in the afternoon, documents said. Police searched him and allegedly found a suspected marijuana vape pen. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that allegedly confirmed he had marijuana in his system.

He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and a lighting violation.

Feb. 23 — James M. McNamara, 22, of Verona, Allegheny County, was arrested for drunken driving after police spotted his pickup truck traveling without headlights on South Main Street.

Police said he denied having had any alcohol, but he failed sobriety tests, according to court documents. A breath test subsequently allegedly showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.135 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

McNamara is charged with DUI and a lighting violation.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

4:06 p.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Eric R. Grossman, 51, of Slippery Rock rear-ended a sport utility vehicle on Route 258 just north of West Valcourt Road in Liberty Township. The other driver, Linda L. Churchill, 68, of Grove City, suffered a possible injury.

Police cited Grossman was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

March 19 — A registered sex offender was arraigned on a felony charge for failing to notify police that he had been staying at a home in Fairview Township.

Daniel L. Lipford, 32, had last registered his home address as being in Cheswick, Allegheny County. But police recently got a tip that he had been living in Fairview Township. Troopers allegedly found him there Feb. 21.

“He admitted that in the last 30 days,” according to court documents, “he had stayed (at the home) approximately 16-17 times.”

Under Pennsylvania law, Lipford is required to regularly register his personal information and immediately contact police when that changes.

The state police website showed he was convicted of indecent assault in 2007.

Lipford was arraigned on a charge of failure to comply with registration of sexual offender requirements. He was given $5,000 unsecured bail in the case.

12:47 p.m. March 17 — No one was injured in a three-vehicle wreck in Muddy Creek Township.

The crash occurred when Thomas H. Peffer, 63, of Portersville swerved his pickup truck to avoid another vehicle that was stopped to make a turn in front of him on Route 19 at Bauder School Road.

Peffer swerved to the right and then overcorrected by swerving to the left, causing the vehicle to twist and collide with a car driven by Thomas J. Meyer, 72, of Fombell, Beaver County.

Police cited Peffer for careless driving.

3:26 p.m. March 14 — An unknown identity thief used a 34-year-old Forward Township man’s debit card to make unauthorized transactions.

March 11 — Police charged an Armstrong County woman with driving on drugs during a DUI checkpoint last month in Center Township. Jennifer S. Seidel, 43, of Kittanning nearly struck a truck ahead of her when she abruptly stopped her sport utility vehicle on the 2100 block of Route 8.

Field sobriety testing later indicated that Seidel was impaired, according to court documents, and she was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

Toxicology results allegedly showed she had the drugs amphetamine, benzoylecgonine and tramadol in her system.

Seidel is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, disregarding traffic lanes, following too closely to another vehicle and careless driving.

March 11 — Alex J. Edinger, 36, of Butler was issued nine traffic tickets stemming from a hit-and-run crash the previous week in Center Township. No one was injured, but both vehicles had to be towed.

Police said Edinger was attempting to turn around 11:50 p.m. March 6 when the van he was driving struck a sport utility vehicle on Route 8 at Swamp Run Road in Center Township. He fled the scene, according to a police report.

William M. Schaffner, 26, of Butler was the other driver.

Police cited Edinger for failing to immediately notify police of an accident, failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident, abandoning a vehicle on a highway, driving with a suspended license, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, following too closely to another vehicle, driving a vehicle without valid inspection and a registration card violation.
