SAXONBURG — A woman charged with throwing hot grease on her husband during an altercation at their home in Middlesex Township waived her preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Erin E. Holehan, 43, is charged with simple assault and harassment. She remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail.

By giving up her right to the hearing at the office of District Judge Sue Haggerty in Saxonburg, the charges will be transferred to Butler County Court where they will be addressed at a later date.

Middlesex Township police began investigating the case after being called to the couple's home on Blue Heron Court shortly after 6 p.m. Jan. 1.

The defendant's husband, 49-year-old Randy Ours, had called to report his wife was intoxicated and arguing with him, officer Alyssa Mathews said in her complaint.

By the time police got there, Holehan was gone.

But before his wife left, the alleged victim recounted, she slapped him on the side of his face.

“Ours explained that the physical abuse has been going on for months,” Mathews' report said.

The officer noted, however, that she could see no visible injuries. She told Ours to compose a written statement.

On Jan. 4, Ours returned his statement, which claimed that on New Year's Day his wife awakened him and started “hitting, kicking and pulling my hair” in a “very violent manner,” documents said.

In self-defense, Ours said, he “curled up in a ball.”

Additionally, his statement referred to a July 13 incident during which Holehan allegedly threw hot grease on his clothing “causing burns and pain on his hand and arm,” documents said.

He admitted, however that he did not seek medical treatment.

Mathews said Ours provided police with about 20 self-recorded videos that showed Holehan throwing grease, as well as other purported incidents of domestic disharmony.

Police arrested her Jan. 17.
