Thursday — Police charged Justin C. Irwin, 32, of Butler with hit-and-run in connection with a one-vehicle crash Monday at Center and Robinson avenues.Irwin lost control of his 2005 Chevy Equinox about 7:10 a.m. and struck a telephone pole support wire and a stop sign at the intersection. But by the time police got there, Irwin had fled, leaving behind his vehicle in the middle of Robinson Avenue.Two days later, Irwin about 8 p.m. Wednesday showed up at the police station. He admitted to the crash and provided his account of what happened, according to police. Irwin said he was traveling home from Kittanning and at some point believed he was being followed by another vehicle.When he drove into the city, he began driving faster to elude the other vehicle. Irwin lost control of this sport utility vehicle and crashed. Immediately after, he said he got out of the vehicle and ran home.In addition to hit-and-run, police cited Irwin for reckless driving.Thursday — A thief overnight stole an air conditioning unit, valued at $130, from the porch of a home in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue.7:38 p.m. Wednesday — Police arrested a Lyndora couple following a reported domestic dispute at West Cunningham and Pillow streets. Shawn C. Bowman, 42, and Janine L. Frobe, 46, both suffered minor injuries.Police said they found the suspects, both who appeared to be intoxicated, in the parking lot of the Huddle Lounge. A search of Frobe's purse turned up suspected marijuana and a glass smoking pipe.Bowman and Frobe both were arraigned on charges of simple assault, public drunkenness and possession of a small amount of marijuana. Frobe also is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. They were placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail each, following arraignment.7:18 p.m. Wednesday — A dispute on Carbon Street landed two teenagers in trouble with the law.One of the suspects, a 14-year-old Butler Township boy, who police did not identify, is charged with simple assault, harassment, and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.The other suspect, Robin Fleischer, 19, of Butler, faces a charge for possession of a small amount of marijuana.
2:03 a.m. Monday — Kenny Kuhns, 45, of Valencia was arrested after he was caught allegedly shoplifting a 42-inch flat-screen television from the Walmart in Butler Commons. The $700 TV was in a shopping cart full of items that Kuhns pushed out the store.Kuhns, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs, was caught in the store parking lot. He is charged with retail theft and public drunkenness.Saturday — Jeff Picerno, 53, of Butler is accused of throwing punches at another man during an altercation at Sam's Club in Moraine Pointe Plaza. Picerno is charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.
10:55 p.m. Saturday — Two unknown suspects, described by police as young white males, threw a pair of oranges at a vehicle parked at the Leisure Time Laundry on West Main Street. The oranges were thrown from a silver, two-door Chevrolet Blazer with a black stripe on the side and gray and chrome after-market rims.Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.
2:03 p.m. Thursday — A woman and man from Crawford County were hurt when their car crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 79 just north of East Lancaster Road in Lancaster Township. Jennifer D. Reynolds, the driver, and her passenger, Robert King, 38, both of Meadville, were taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township with minor injuries.Reynolds, who was wearing a seat belt, was cited for a lane violation. King was not wearing a seat belt.6:46 p.m. Thursday — Four people including two young children were seriously injured in a head-on crash on Route 268 just north of Fairmont Road in Fairview Township.Jennifer K. Edwards, 18, of Parker and Beau M. Pickett, 37, of Petrolia, the drivers, suffered unknown injuries. A 6-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, both of Petrolia, who were in Pickett's car, also suffered unknown injuries.Both drivers were flown by medical helicopters to different Pittsburgh hospitals. Both children were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital before being flown to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.Pickett was wearing a seat belt and the boy was in a child safety seat. Police did not immediately know if Edwards or the girl were wearing seat belts.Edwards was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
Thursday — David O. Stowe, 37, of Harrisville was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle at Lee and Bottle Hill roads in Springfield Township.March 17 — A detainee escaped from the George Junior Republic juvenile detention center in Pine Township. Police later captured the youth, who they did not identify.
Tuesday — A pistol was stolen between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in a burglary at a home on Sylvania Road in Scott Township.
