MIDDLESEX TWP — Township supervisors on Wednesday again heard from residents concerned with runoff from a neighboring landscaping company.

Supervisors were asked for an update on progress with ongoing issues with Endless Summer Supply, which is along Kilgallon Road and Route 8. Residents in June told supervisors that unidentified materials were washing away from the company.

Township Manager Travis Cavanaugh agreed there were problems at the location.

“We did a site visit,” he said. “We ... did find some issues that are (on) that site.”

Identifying ditches, seeded areas and pipes that need attention, Cavanaugh said the company was notified of issues on the property. A particular concern in June had been the nature of the dye running off wood chips manufactured on-site.

“It was vegetable oil,” Cavanaugh said, adding that the Department of Environmental Protection approved its use.

The township will give Endless Summer 30 days from the end of this week to address the issues.

In other business, resident Jeff Barner reported that he's been having trouble with a catch basin near his home.

Barner lives at the intersection of Ruth and Jason drives. He said the catch basin doesn't drain properly, backs up and floods his basement — up to eight inches.

“That structure can't keep up,” he said. “My (basement) water's not draining. It sits there for 10, 15 minutes.”

Barner noted that the catch basin has been a problem for years, and that he spoke to Cavanaugh about it. Barner explained the problem might come from combined issues with the drain pipe and erosion under the road. He wanted to see what the township could do before investing in the installation of a French drain.

Township officials said they would need to look at it.
