Chicora man charged with stealing shotgun
A Chicora man was charged with stealing a shotgun from another man and selling it for $400.
Braiden Anthon Safranek, 26, faces felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property and misdemeanor count of theft by deception.
According to an affidavit in the case, Safranek was at a property on Hemphill Lane in Donegal Township when he took the shotgun belonging to the property’s owner. He then messaged someone on Aug. 30 offering to sell the shotgun, pretending it was his own.
A week later, another man was at the buyer’s residence and recognized the shotgun, according to the affidavit. The man later reached out to the Hemphill Lane resident and asked if he still had the shotgun. The owner discovered it was missing.
The affidavit said Safranek admitted to stealing the shotgun on Sept. 7.
Safranek’s preliminary hearing is scheduled Sept. 29 in front of District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
