Charles A. Maxwell, 64, of Main Street, Lyndora, died Friday in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Nov. 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Wilfred A. Maxwell and the late Selma Berg Maxwell.

Mr. Maxwell was a diesel mechanic for Keystone Detroit and Penn Detroit and retired May 9, 2003.

He was a member of VFW Post 249 and a former member of the Lyndora Fire Department and the Slovak Club.

Mr. Maxwell was a graduate of the Mars High School and of Williamsport College, where he received a diesel mechanic certification.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife, Diana L. Barnhart Maxwell, whom he married Dec. 30, 1978; his stepmother, Lois Maxwell of Valencia; one son, Alexander Maxwell of Lyndora; two daughters, Alicia and Michael Fox of Portersville and April Maxwell of Baltimore.; two grandchildren, Lila Fox of Portersville and Levi Fox of Portersville; three brothers, Frank and Amy Maxwell of Butler, George and Elaine Shaffer, and Randy and Sue Shaffer of Valencia; two sisters, Kathryn Catalano of Butler and Lois and Keith Petrosky of Vineland, N.J.; nine nieces and nine nephews.

Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by two brothers, William Shaffer and Robert Shaffer.

<B>MAXWELL</B> — Friends of Charles A. Maxwell, who died Friday, June 26, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church, officiating.
