10:05 p.m. Friday — A Butler Township woman was allegedly driving drunk when she ran a stop sign at Marvin Street and Center Avenue and crashed into another vehicle, injuring one of the occupants.

Police said the defendant, Jennifer B. Johnston, 48, was driving a car that struck a van driven by Christian Manny, 23, of Butler. Both drivers agreed to meet at a nearby donut shop apparently to exchange information.

While at the donut shop, a passenger in Manny’s vehicle, 42-year-old Theresa Cousins of Sharon, got in Johnston’s vehicle to make sure she would not flee the scene, according to court documents.

But when Johnston saw a police car drive by, documents said, she returned to her car and took off with Cousins still inside.

“Cousins stated that she (pleaded) with Johnston, asking her to stop the vehicle, but Johnston did not and drove it back to her residence, which was approximately a mile away,” a police affidavit said.

Police tracked down the defendant’s address and found her there in a “highly intoxicated state with Cousins nearby,” according to the affidavit.

Johnston failed a series of field sobriety tests. She failed to submit to a breath test.

She is charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, hit-and-run, failing to stop and give information or render aid and a stop violation.

Documents did not identify the person in the van who was injured.
