Monday — Tiesha R. Jones, 30, of Butler was charged with taking a 75-year-old woman’s purse that was left in the waiting room Jan. 12 at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Jones is charged with theft of lost or mislaid property.

11:36 a.m. Friday — Video surveillance allegedly showed Jeffrey M. Barber Jr., 43, of Butler taking seven fuel containers from the GetGo store on Route 8 north without paying for the items, according to a police report.

Police said Barber filled the containers with kerosene and put them in the back of his pickup truck before leaving. Each of the containers cost $21.99, placing the theft loss at $153.93.

Barber is charged with retail theft.

Friday — David D. Gould, 31, of Butler was caught allegedly failing to scan $20.28 in merchandise while using a self-checkout register at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

Police said Gould was previously barred from store property. He is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft and defiant trespass.

Friday — James L. Straughn Jr., 22, of Boyers was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance after police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection West Main and Elm streets.

Along with DUI, he is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and a lighting violation.

3:05 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by Kailyn J. Behrens, 18, of Chicora rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped to make a turn on Route 68 at Leitem Lane in Oakland Township. William L. Myers, 47, of Chicora was the other driver.

Police cited Behrens for following too closely to another vehicle.

4:24 a.m. Sunday — James H. Confer, 28, of Cabot lost control of his sport utility vehicle and struck a tree along Route 268 just north of Fairmont Road in Fairview Township. Police said he left the scene following the crash. The vehicle had to be towed form the scene.

Confer was cited for failing to immediately notify police of an accident, trespass by vehicle, driving at an unsafe speed, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

2 a.m. Sunday — A vehicle struck a mailbox on Herman Road in Clearfield Township. The unknown driver did not stop.

Friday — David D. Weitzel, 36, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Butler. Police said they pulled him over around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 15 on Pillow Street for having a burned out brake light.

Weitzel admitted that he had smoked marijuana earlier that night, according to court documents, and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that confirmed he had marijuana in his system.

Weitzel is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and two lighting violations.

Friday — Two out-of-county residents were charged with misdemeanor drug possession in connection with a traffic stop Jan. 16 in Butler. Police said they stopped the vehicle around 1:25 a.m. on Center Avenue for a window tint violation.

The “strong odor” of burned marijuana coming from the car that Kristen S. Renwick, 38, of Rimersburg, was driving caught the attention of troopers, according to court documents.

Police said the passenger, Zephaniah A. Vickers, 22, of Brookville, Jefferson County, admitted that he had a marijuana roach in the center console. A search of the vehicle also turned up Suboxone in a plastic bag on the driver’s side.

Renwick told police the Suboxone was hers, documents said, but that she did not have a prescription for it. She is charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving a vehicle with illegal sunscreening.

Vickers is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.

9:45 p.m. Thursday — Jonathan L. Schiebel, 25, of Butler was apparently hurt when he lost control of his car and hit an embankment on Dinnerbell Road in Jefferson Township. Police said Schiebel, who was wearing a seat belt, refused medical treatment.

He was cited for driving too fast for conditions and disregarding traffic lanes.

2:33 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Zachary A. Williams, 21, of East Brady, traveled through a pool of water on Dinnerbell Road just east of Victory Road in Jefferson Township and struck an embankment.

Williams, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt, but his car had to be towed. Police cited him for driving too fast for conditions and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

4:46 a.m. Thursday — Heather R. Hiles, 43, of Petrolia was injured when the car she was driving struck a deer on Route 68 at Medical Center Road in Donegal Township. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a suspected minor injury.

Police said Hiles was wearing a seat belt. Her car had to be towed.

State Police, Mercer

7:04 p.m. Dec. 25 — Phillip L. Sasse, 21, of Harrisville and his passenger were both hurt when he lost control of his car and struck a ditch on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township, Mercer County.

Sasse told police the accident happened when he swerved to miss a deer. He and Conner E. Sevin, 18, of Grove City, were both taken to Grove City Medical Center with apparent minor injuries.

Sasse was cited for not wearing a seat belt. A police report said Sevin had his seat belt on.
