David “Dog” Brian Powers
David “Dog” Brian Powers, 61, of Butler, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the home of his sister after undergoing a surgical procedure.
He was born on July 16, 1959, and was the son of Beverly Powers Schacht and the late Sam Powers.
He was a 1977 graduate of Butler High School.
During his lifetime, he held many jobs at Kmart, Backhaus Nursery, Renick's Tree Farm, Paul Wise construction and as a crane operator in the Melt Shop at Armco.
David was a talented and creative brick, block and stone mason. His passion for building things is most evident at the multiple arch home he designed and built. He also built a stone archway for Rider Church.
David was a recovering alcoholic, and his years of sobriety grew as he aged. He was a gentle giant and an eternal optimist, whose kindness, friendliness, laid back demeanor and desire to help others were the cornerstones of his character.
David was strong in his faith and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, and enjoyed reading the Bible. He also enjoyed taking photos, rock and roll music, and loved dogs.
David will be long remembered for his selflessness, devotion to his faith, and always seeing the glass half full. A special thanks for those friends who were there for him in his later years, Dave Schuler, Scott Dimun and Greg Gold. Lastly, a heartfelt thanks to his cousin, Tom Powers, for taking David under his wing and being like a brother to him.
He is survived by his mother, Beverly Powers Schacht of Cranberry Township; three sisters, Carol Morehart of Butler, Cathy Phimmasone of Woodbridge, Va., and Mary Powers of Palo Alto, Calif.
POWERS — There will be no public visitation for David “Dog” Brian Powers, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2021.A private ceremony celebrating his life will be held at the convenience of the family at Mount Zion Baptist Church.Arrangements were handled by Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E.
