Malarkey

David L. Malarkey, 78, of Butler, passed Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, following an illness.

Born June 14, 1948, in Parker, he was the eldest son of the late Louis and Audene Malarkey, also of Parker.

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University and proud member of the Theta Xi fraternity, he remained a lifelong Nittany Lion fan and recalled his years in State College with great fondness.

He quickly found his true calling in broadcast journalism and joined the staff of WISR Radio in 1973, the beginning of what would become an over 50-year tenure as the morning voice of Butler. Along with his hosting of the afternoon “It’s Your Turn” talk radio show, Dave shared his unique blend of entertainment, wholesome nostalgia and commitment to lifelong learning with countless people who were better for his wit and wisdom.

Dave was proud of his Irish heritage and traveled back across the pond 13 times to attend the Synge School of Irish Literature and Drama. His love of the arts was also evident at home, as he acted in, directed and produced numerous shows and served on the board of directors for the Butler Little Theatre and Musical Theatre Guild. He was also faithful to his home parish of St. Paul’s in Butler, now All Saints, singing in the choir and teaching adult formation classes. His dedication to service extended to the greater community of Butler, where he served on many local boards and commissions.

He is survived by his devoted partner, Marietta Carney; brother, Thomas (Lesley) Malarkey; sisters, Faith (William) Hepler and Christine (Vince) DeLucca; along with loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

MALARKEY — Arrangements for David L. Malarkey, who died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, were private per his wishes and entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Butler, svdpbutler.org, a charity close to his heart.
