10:49 p.m. July 21 — A Center Township teenager allegedly passed out from drinking too much alcohol, leaving his baby unattended in the back seat of a pickup truck.

Police said that while on a patrol they found 19-year-old Marco A. Cantera “face down on the ground” about 10 feet from the truck that was in the driveway of a home on South Chestnut Street.

An officer shined his flashlight at Cantera, who eventually responded, according to court documents. About the same time, police noticed a baby boy in back of the truck. The windows were down.

The child was in an unfastened car seat. He was clothed and there was a small blanket over the carrier. The defendant told police the baby was his son, documents said. The truck, he noted, belonged to his uncle.

Patrolman Kory Fleming smelled alcohol coming from Cantera, who appeared impaired, the officer said in his affidavit. He admitted that he had been drinking and said that someone else had driven him there and left.

Cantera is charged with child endangerment, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and underage drinking.

July 26 — Charles Senkyere, 58, of Cranberry Township was charged with stopping payment on one check and later bouncing a second check that he passed just weeks apart at Hunter Truck Sales and Service on Route 8.

Police said Senkyere on Nov. 4 wrote a $1,527.64 check for work done at Hunter’s. But the business later learned that the defendant had placed a “stop payment” on the check according to court documents.

A review of his bank account found that when he issued the check and stopped payment on it, he had a negative balance. He is charged with theft by deception and receiving stolen property.

On Nov. 29, police said, Senkyere passed another check for more truck work at Hunter’s. That check was for $1,062.12 and was eventually returned for insufficient funds. The business sent the defendant a certified letter seeking payment, but the letter came back “return to sender.”

Senkyere, in that separate case, is charged with bad checks.

Police Cpl. Jack Ripper, the investigating officer, said he has been unable to contact the defendant.

Monday — Cody M. Johnston, 22, of Jefferson Township was arraigned on several felonies for allegedly sending a sexually explicit photo to a 14-year-old girl earlier this year in Buffalo Township.

A July 3 report from ChildLine, the state’s child abuse hot line, started the police investigation, according to court documents. The alleged victim was interviewed.

The girl told authorities that on Jan. 11 she received via Snapchat an illicit photo from Johnston, who she previous knew. Police noted that the defendant at the time was 21 years old.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned the defendant on felony charges of disseminating obscene materials to a minor, corruption of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communication facility.

Additionally, he was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and open lewdness. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail following arraignment.

Monday — Police charged Chad E. Vogel, 29, of Middlesex Township in a hit-and-run crash about 9:30 p.m. July 26 in Middlesex Township. He is accused of swerving into another vehicle on Sandy Hill Road south of Monks Road.

Following the crash, according to court documents, he did not stop and traveled another 50 yards before the car he was driving broke down. Police said he fled into the woods.

He is charged with hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident, failing to keep right and careless driving.

11:30 p.m. Sunday — A suspected drunken driver was arrested after he allegedly twice tried to run from police following a traffic stop in Center Township.

Police pulled over Gary J. Tichansky, 33, of Chicora after they saw him swerving in his sport utility vehicle on Route 8, according to court documents. But he allegedly got out of the driver’s door and ran.

The suspect led police on a chase behind a building, down a hill and into a wooded area before he was caught. Tichansky is accused of breaking free, causing police to chase him and nab him a second time.

Police said he appeared to be intoxicated and they took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood draw, which he refused.

Tichansky was later arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, two counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and a seat belt violation. He was placed in the Butler County Prison.
