Man wrecks work vehicle
MIDDLESEX TWP — A McCandless Township Sanitary Authority supervisor was allegedly intoxicated late Saturday night when he crashed his authority-owned vehicle into a creek along Route 8, authorities said.
Mark T. Lansberry, 58, of Penn Township was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after wrecking the 2005 Jeep about 11:45 p.m.
“The vehicle was totaled,” said Middlesex Township police Sgt. Randy Ruediger. It had to be towed away.
Lansberry was traveling north on Route 8 just north of Route 228 east when his Jeep crossed into the southbound lane. The vehicle returned to the northbound lane but crossed back into the opposing lane before going off the east berm, police said.
The Jeep hit a utility pole and continued over an embankment, ending up in a shallow creek. Lansberry was not hurt.
Officers reported they smelled alcohol coming from Lansberry when they spoke to him following the wreck. He also was “very unstable “ on his feet and “nearly falling over,” according to the police report.
The report noted that Lansberry was belligerent and using profane language. He remained “uncooperative” and “argumentative” after being taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry. He refused a blood test at the hospital.
In addition to DUI, he faces unspecified traffic violations, Ruediger said.
Lansberry is the plant operations manager at the McCandless Township Sanitary Authority’s Pine Creek plant, according to the agency’s website.
He could not be reached for comment Monday. The McCandless authority did not return a telephone call.
The Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted police.
