2 arrested for Christmas strangulations
Two people are being held in Butler County Prison after being charged, in separate incidents in Butler, with strangulation on Christmas Day.
Jose Olivio Jr., 34, no known address, and Jacob T. Barker, 29, of Butler were held in the county facility on $10,000 bail each, after both were charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor simple assault after separate incidents in Butler on Monday.
Butler City police filed the charges in both cases.
Olivio was charged after an incident in the 200 block of Kaufman Drive at 2:41 a.m. Monday.
Police said a woman reported that she was assaulted by her boyfriend, Olivio. She said when she arrived home she saw Olivio's vehicle parked outside in a parking lot. When she attempted to go inside, Olivio grabbed her and threw her on the ground, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Olivio then reportedly grabbed the woman by the neck, stopping her airflow, the document states. He continued to yell at the woman, strangling her until she was able to get away from him and call 911, the document states.
Police said the woman's neck showed redness consistent with the report.
Olivio was at the home when officers arrived and was arrested. He appeared to be intoxicated, according to police.Barker was charged following an incident in the 500 block of West Brady Street, between 5:18 and 5:55 p.m. Monday.The affidavit in that case states that police responded to a domestic incident between a mother and son after the woman flagged down an officer who was at a neighbor's home.The woman reported arguing with her son, Barker, when he began to strangle her with his hands around her throat, the document states.The woman had injuries around her neck and also complained of pain and trouble swallowing, the document states.Barker was then arrested and charged.Olivio was arraigned Monday, while Barker was arraigned Tuesday morning.Both await preliminary hearings, which have yet to be scheduled, according to online docket records. No attorney was listed for either individual.
