2 drivers injured in Penn Twp. crash

PENN TWP — Both drivers suffered injuries Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle accident on Route 8, but police said it could have turned out much worse.

Township police said the female driver of a sport-utility vehicle pulled out from Brownsdale Road and entered the northbound center turning lane with the intention of turning right into Jim Kriley Sales and Service around 6:30 p.m.

The male driver of a small car traveling north in the left lane activated his turn signal to move into the right lane when the SUV cut across both northbound lanes to enter the business parking lot, police said.

The cars collided and came within inches of striking a propane tank storage area in the lot, police said.

The storage area is protected by concrete barriers and fencing.

The male driver suffered a cut on his head and complained about an ankle injury, but refused to be taken by ambulance to a hospital. He said he would get a ride to Butler Memorial Hospital, police said.

The woman complained about shoulder pain, but also refused medical transportation, police said.

The township volunteer fire department, Butler Ambulance and Middlesex Township police also responded to the accident scene.
