Morgan

Joseph F. Morgan, 85, of Zelienople died Thursday at the Wexford House Nursing Center in Wexford.

Born March 15, 1921, in Sayre, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Laura Decker Morgan.

Mr. Morgan was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church since 1945 where he served many terms on church council. He was one of the four original lectors after Vatican Council II, was a Eucharistic minister at the church and at Evergreen Nursing Center and was a Secular Franciscan. He assisted the Rev. Bergman in the church office for 29 years and was known as "Bingo Joe" for more than 50 years at the church's annual Lawn Fete.

He was a five-year World War II Veteran having enlisted in the Army in September 1940. He was promoted to master sergeant, then transferred to the Army Air Corps where he was dual-rated as a navigator/bombardier. While based in Saipan for six months, where, as a first lieutenant, he flew 30 missions in a B29 over Japan.

He also was the eldest living member, both in age and tenure, of the Zelienople Lions Club.

He retired as an accountant with the H H Robertson Co. after 29 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen A. Racz, whom he married June 1, 1944, in Great Bend, Kan.; two daughters, Karen L. Skurcenski of N. Hills and Patricia M. "Trish" Maizland of Portersville; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph F. and Carol Morgan of West Deer Township; six grandchildren, Joseph F. (Kathy) Morgan Jr., Darren Skurcenski, Gregory P. (Amie) Morgan, Cynthia E. (Andrew) Vetter, Lauren R. Skurcenski and Valerie M. Maizland; and five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth C. Morgan, Jacob R. Skurcenski, Gregory P. Morgan, Jr., Arianna K. Vetter, Megan L. Skurcenski.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy O'Rourke and Velma M. Stilson; a son-in-law, David L. Skurcenski, and a nephew, Gary Stilson.
