Gurtner

Margaret M. "Peg" Manaher Gurtner, 88, of Mars, formerly of North Hills, died Monday morning at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born in Pittsburgh, July 20, 1918, she was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Coughlin Manaher.

She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Mars. She served her Lord in many ways outside of the church, but found time to be regular in her worship of God and to help every organization in the church. Over the years, she was an elder, sang in the choir and was an assistant minister.

Mrs. Gurtner, the "Cookie Lady," also was active in the Mars Senior Center at Penn-Mar Plaza, where she lived for the past 25 years, and belonged to the Silver Sneakers group and the Mars AARP

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Martha G.) Ward of Warrendale; a son, Paul Gurtner of Sequim, Wash.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Christian J. Gurtner, whom she married April 5, 1939, died June 8, 1973. She also was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
