The jolly man in the red suit likely will deal with some precipitation as he swings through Butler County on Sunday night.

Lee Hendricks, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Pittsburgh, predicts that rain overnight on Saturday will change to snow showers on Christmas Eve morning, when temperatures will drop into the mid-20s.

The cold air will remain on Christmas and a 40 percent chance of snow showers is predicted for the morning.

“It's looking like a yes at this point,” Hendricks said of the potential for a white Christmas.

He said no significant travel issues should accompany the white stuff.

“We'll get a minor accumulation,” Hendricks said. “Less than a half-inch at this point.”

He said more snow is predicted for the Interstate 80 corridor and north due to a clipper that will bring significant snow and freezing rain to Clarion and Forest counties.

Looking back through the records, Hendricks said the last white Christmas in Butler County was in 2013, when a trace of snow brightened the holiday landscape.
