A Butler man charged with felony drug possession following a traffic stop was sentenced Thursday to the county Intermediate Punishment Program in Butler County Court.

Owen C. Barkley, 25, was sentenced to six months in the program, with 14 days on house arrest with electronic monitoring, by Judge William Shaffer.

That is followed by six months of county probation. He was also ordered to pay court costs and $1,000 in fines, complete 60 hours of community service, attend an Alcohol Highway Safety School, complete a Victim Impact Panel and complete the county litter pickup program.

Barkley pleaded guilty Dec. 15 to misdemeanor driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also initially charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of DUI controlled substance and summary traffic violations after an incident on March 6, 2017.

Charges were filed by the state police following a traffic stop on South Monroe Street. Police said the vehicle was pulled over for not having a rear bumper.

Barkley, who appeared impaired, admitted that he had a “jar of marijuana” in the trunk, according to court documents. Police looked in the trunk and found a one-quart Mason jar that contained a little more than two ounces of suspected marijuana.

He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and a blood test was conducted.
