Daryl E. "Mick" Birnley of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away May 4.

Mick was born in Grove City, April 12, 1922, to Howard and Sara Birnley.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucille A. "Boo" Hutchinson Birnley; his parents; his brothers, Alton, Paul and Merle; and his sisters, Erla and Evelyn.

Mick graduated from Grove City High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1944 and trained as a radioman.

He met his future wife, Boo Hutchinson, in Stockton, Kan., in the summer of 1944. Engaged in November 1944, at Kearney Air Force Base in Nebraska, Mick and Boo were married Aug. 1, 1945, and had two sons, Bill and Dan.

In 1956, Mick began a distinguished 28-year career as a golf course superintendent while Boo ran the golf shop. They worked eight years at Lake Arthur Country Club, five years at Ridgeview Golf Club in Chicora and 15 years at Connoquenessing Golf Club in Ellwood City.

After the 1984 golf season, Mick and Boo retired to their home in Boynton Beach, where they enjoyed many happy years together.

Mick is survived by sons, Bill (Patty) Birnley, Dan (Jennifer "Jeff") Birnley; two granddaughters, Kendra and Allyssa; one great-grandchild, Sebastian; and many nieces and nephews.

Mick was a loving husband and father who never lost his love of family, baseball and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
