Friday — Jerrod Priest, 26, of Butler was arrested in connection with a rear-end crash about 9:10 p.m. July 18 at West Penn and North Chestnut streets.
Priest told police that he was looking down at his phone and did not see the other vehicle stopped at the intersection, according to court documents. He also allegedly admitted to having two beers.
An officer at the scene found a cold bottle with some beer still in it that police said belonged to Priest. He later failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.212 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.
Priest is charged with driving under the influence and driving a vehicle with an open container of alcohol.
Friday — Police charged Colton J. McIllwain, 27, of Saxonburg with drunken driving stemming from a one-vehicle rollover wreck on Center Avenue. His sport utility vehicle ended on its passenger side on top of a retaining wall.
McIllwain told police that he was southbound on Center Avenue and “took his eyes off the road briefly,” according to court documents. The vehicle veered to the right and traveled up a hillside where it struck a utility pole and rolled over.
Police said the defendant admitted that he had been drinking alcohol before the crash. Toxicology results later determined his blood-alcohol level was 0.174 percent.
McIllwain is charged with DUI.
Wednesday — Tyrone R. Hilliard, 28, of Butler was charged with using an employer’s debit card to make unauthorized purchases of cigarettes and gasoline last month.
Police allege Hilliard on June 11 bought a carton of cigarettes for $81.64 and gas for $8.61 with the card owned by Miller’s Quality Meats on North Main Street.
One of the owners told police that the defendant had been working at the business delivering meat for several weeks, according to court documents.
Hilliard eventually confessed to wrongdoing, police said. He claimed he found the card outside on the ground next to one of the owner’s offices. He recounted that he activated the card, which the store had recently obtained, and used it at two Butler area stores.
He is charged with access device fraud.

Wednesday — A Center Township woman and a Crawford County man were charged with having drugs and other contraband stemming from a July 4 traffic stop in Butler.
Police said 31-year-old Tressa L. Young was driving the sport utility vehicle that troopers stopped about 11:25 p.m. on the 500 block of North Washington Street for a registration violation.
According to court documents, police subsequently learned that Young and one of her passengers, Scott W. Braden, 36, of Meadville, were both wanted on warrants.
A search of the vehicle turned up several empty stamp bags of suspected heroin and a hypodermic needle. Young also removed heroin that she had hidden in her underwear, documents said.
