Carol Johnson

Carol (Spiegelberg) Johnson, 74, died suddenly Wednesday at the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.

Born Dec. 9, 1937, in Monessen, Carol was a 1955 graduate of Monessen High School. For over 20 years, she enjoyed a career with Mellon Bank in Monessen, working at both offices. During her career, she took a sabbatical of 14 years which she spent as a homemaker and focused on raising her son.

Carol was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monessen for her entire adult life.

She shared her husband Ray’s passion for the theater acting in a number of shows with various theater companies in the mid-Mon Valley. She especially enjoyed acting in the lead role opposite her husband in “Dial M for Murder.” She also volunteered as part of the Mon Valley Hospital Auxiliary for many years.

Throughout her life, Carol had an exceptional love of painting and art. Her artwork adorned her own home for many years. Her painting continued into her retirement years despite debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. During her time at Passavant Retirement Community, she painted many pictures and produced hand-drawn and painted notecards for friends. Her finished pieces have been distributed among her friends at Passavant Retirement Community in her memory.

She is survived by her son, Scott and his wife, Jill; and her two granddaughters, Emily and Rachel.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Raymond A. Johnson II; her two sisters, Norma Hannah and Betty Bowers; as well as her parents Henry and Nell Spiegelberg.

She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
