Charges were filed Tuesday against a Bronx, N.Y., man after state police said he used bank account information from a deceased man to take $2,500 from his account at First National Bank in Portersville.

Luis Cuascut, 65, is facing felony charges of identity theft and theft by deception from the Jan. 13, 2025, incident.

According to police, the bank branch manager reported a bank security official told her someone took money from the branch while pretending to be someone else. The manager told police the person who took the money has previously attempted to do the same thing at multiple locations using multiple identities, according to an affidavit.

She reported the man whose account was accessed has been deceased for four years and she told the man’s widow about the incident.

The manager said Cuascut entered the branch and deposited a signed check containing the deceased man’s account number. He showed identification containing the deceased man’s information, but it had Cuascut’s photo. He then withdrew $2,500 from the account, according to the affidavit.

Police noted the bank reimbursed the widow $2,500.
