Lutton

Mary Lutton, beloved mother of Peter Lutton of Burlingame, Calif., and sister of Dawna Schneider and Richard Malvarose of Santa Maria, Calif.; passed away Friday after a lingering illness at a California hospital.

Born Mary Elizabeth Malvarose, June 2, 1939, in Butler, to Eugene and Barbara Malvarose, Mary spent her youth in both Pennsylvania and Michigan before graduating from Butler High School in 1957. Upon graduation, Mary was employed by the Nationwide Insurance Co. in Butler, during which time she was crowned "Queen of Nationwide" in 1961.

Mary married Peter Robert Lutton, son of Dr. Edward and Garnett Lutton of Butler, in 1961. Upon Peter's graduation from Thiel College, they spent the summer traveling across the country and subsequently settled in the San Francisco Bay area, where Peter opened a neighborhood tavern called the Panic Button. In the years that followed, they lived in Maui, Tiburon, Montclaire and San Carlos, Calif.

Prior to retiring in November 2002, Mary worked for several years at BBC food brokerage in San Carlos. She then moved to Santa Maria to be closer to her brother and sister. In her retirement, she was a crossing guard for the Santa Maria Bonita Elementary School District.

During her life, Mary received numerous awards for her artistic talents, exhibited through her paintings in both watercolor and oils. Her love of reading made her a constant visitor to the Santa Maria Public Library — reading a book a day was not unusual for her in her retirement.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Jamie Lutton of Burlingame, and a sister, Dawna Schneider and brother and sister-in-law Richard and Pat Malvarose, all of Santa Maria. Nieces and nephews include Richard Malvarose of Harker Heights, Texas, currently serving in Iraq, Elizabeth Zatkulak of Creve Couer, Mo., John Malvarose of Leander, Texas, and Aaron Beitch of Santa Maria.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Peter; her mother and father, and a sister-in-law Ruth Malvarose.

<B>Lutton </B>— Following the request of Mary Lutton, who died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, cremation will take place at <B>Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary</B>, Santa Maria, Calif.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
