Margaret Ellen Oesterling

Margaret Ellen Oesterling of the Orchard at Concordia, Butler, formerly of Old Route 422, East Butler, passed away Saturday at her home.

Margaret was born March 7, 1927, in Clearfield Township to Adrian H. and Loretta E. (Kramer) Oesterling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant sister, Luella Oesterling; her brother, Adrian Hugh “Hughie” Oesterling; her sister-in-law, Barbara Oesterling; and her brother-in-law, James Piper.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Piper of Titusville; her nephews, Douglas Piper of State College and Gregory Piper of Pleasant Gap; her nieces, Linda Manis of Ringgold, Ga., Loretta Geiser of Philadelphia and Patricia Lombardi of Adamstown, Md.; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Butler High School in 1945.

She was employed by the Armco Steel Corp. at the Butler Works for 41 years in the personnel relations office, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Armco Veterans Club, the Butler Armco Employees Association, and she had been a member of the Armco Girl's Club for many years.

She grew up as a member of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church of Butler. She was an active member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church of Butler throughout her adult life including her membership in St. Paul Catholic Women & Christian Mothers. She also supported numerous Catholic charitable organizations.

She was also a member of the Tanglewood Senior Center.

She loved painting and music, including playing the organ, violin and piano.

She loved traveling throughout her life, including vacations to Hawaii, Quebec, the Vatican, Texas, California and North Carolina.

She was an avid collector of panda memorabilia and an avid reader.

OESTERLING — Friends of Margaret Ellen Oesterling, who died Saturday, April 16, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, Butler.St. Pauls Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
