Dorothy A. Fleeger
Dorothy A. Fleeger, 95, of Okeechobee, Fla., passed away Wednesday at Raulerson Hospital.
Born in Butler to John H. and Bertha Pearl Bennett, she was married to Robert A. Fleeger, who preceded her in death in 1982.
She worked at the Association for the Blind in Butler as an eye health educator and then in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at the Sun Dial School as a special-education teacher.
She moved to Okeechobee from Fort Lauderdale in 1980.
After her retirement, she taught literacy and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
She was an active member of Okeechobee Presbyterian Church and volunteered in the food pantry.
She loved butterflies because they symbolize the transforming work of Christ in her life.
She is survived by her four children, Jim Fleeger (Barbara) of Butler, Dianne Bowman (Horace) of Plantation, Fla., Becky Fleeger of Okeechobee, Fla., and Sam Fleeger (Barbara) of Tallahassee, Fla.; eight grandchildren, John Fleeger (Elaine), Jan Campbell, Kathleen Vertz (Tim), Richard Hathaway, Shane Fleeger, Danny Foster, Mace Fleeger and Christopher Fleeger; six great-grandchildren, Robert Fleeger, Erin Bruce (Mat), Tim Spencer (Lindsey), Christopher Dunn, Ben Vertz and Andrew Vertz.
