Butler’s Levi McClellan leads all local golfers after first round of WPIAL individual championships: Roundup
Levi McClellan’s impressive season continued Monday at Hannastown Golf Club.
The Butler senior shot a 4-over 74 in the first round of the WPIAL Individual Golf Championships to finish 10th and qualify for the final round Monday, Oct. 5, at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
He was one of three Butler County golfers to make the final in boys Class 3A, joined by Seneca Valley’s Josh Marquardt and Mars’ Landon Mitro who both shot a 7-over to finish in nine-way tie for 23rd.
Mars’ Elise Wadas shot a 16-over 87 to finish in a four-way tie for 11th in the girls 3A first round. The other local golfers joining her in the final are Seneca Valley’s Kaelin McCann (t-24th, 26-over), Alana Stewart (t-24th, 26-over) and Mars’ Delaney DiCuccio (t-32nd, 39-over).
North Catholic’s Riley Kontul tied for seventh at 20-over in the 2A field, and GiGi Colafella and Brea Kelley finished t-11th and t-13th at 26-over and 27-over, respectively.
Both girls championships will be held Monday, Oct. 5, at Valleybrook Country Club. The boys 2A first round will be held Tuesday. The top 36 golfers in each classification advance to the final.
Ella McConville recorded a hat trick and had an assist in Freeport’s 12-0 blowout of Valley. Cheyenne Oneil and Aubriana Urik had two goals and an assist apiece. Five other Yellowjackets scored.
Pine-Richland 2, Butler 1 — Lexi Rudish scored the Golden Tornado’s only goal on an assist from Dakota Viehmann.
Mars 1, Quaker Valley 0 — Miley Gratton scored the game-winner on a Jade Breese corner kick with 11 minutes left in the game. The Planets improved to 7-1-1.
Logan Berry found the net three times to lead Slippery Rock to a 6-2 win over Sharon. Wade Freehling, Zach Lasko and Connor Zorn scored the Rockets’ other goals, and Sam Caton had two assists.
Haley Corle recorded 10 kills and two blocks as Union held off Cranberry Area 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 13-25, 25-20, 15-13). Kolstin Wetzel had nine kills and two blocks, and Lilly Hayden recorded 34 digs.
A-C Valley 3, Punxsutawney 0 — Arianna Adams had seven kills and 13 digs to lead the Falcons in a win by scores of 25-12, 25-22, 25-17. Lexi Altman had 18 assists and six digs. Sarah Bashline had 12 digs and two aces.
Seneca Valley 3, Canon-McMillan 1 — The Raiders topped the Big Macs. No other details were available.
