George 'Gabe' Knochel
George "Gabe" Henry Knochel, 81, of Butler passed away Monday at Concordia at the Orchard.
He was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Etna, the son of the late Floyd and Florence (Hazen) Knochel.
George was a former member of the Glade Run Presbyterian Church.
He worked as a foreman at Bush Nurseries and at the DiRenzio Nursery in Gibsonia.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and the Korean War, and he received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
George was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing poker.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Sylvia) Bella of Butler and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Martsolf of Butler; a son, George H. Knochel Jr. of Evans City; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Florence Clair of Vandergrift and Mrs. John (Grace) Holtfelter of Erie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
<B>KNOCHEL</B> — Friends of George "Gabe" Henry Knochel, who died Monday, May 10, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Samuel Blair of Gateway Hospice officiating.
